Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on Saturday to lay the foundation stone of an international cricket stadium. JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday left for New Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national President J P Nadda to discuss the alliance between the two parties in Karnataka for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Owaisi opposes women's reservation Bill, says will benefit 'savarna' women

AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday opposed the women's reservation bill saying it would provide reservation only to "savarna women", and questioned why OBC and Muslim women who have even lesser representation in Parliament are not being given any quota. "I oppose this legislation.... The justification that is being given for the bill is that more women will get elected to Parliament. If that is the justification, why that justification is not being extended to the OBC and Muslim women whose representation in this august House is minimal," Owaisi said. Women's reservation bill: BJP criticises Cong, says party playing politics

As the discussion on the women's reservation bill began in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, the ruling BJP criticised the Congress, saying the party was trying to play politics on it and wondered why the opposition keeps on claiming that nothing has been done. The constitutional amendment bill provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The reservation will come into force only after census and delimitation exercise. Speaking on the bill, BJP member Nishikant Dubey said things work as per the Constitution amid criticism in certain quarters about the bill not being brought earlier.
