Delhi riots: Court extends stay on probe against Kapil Mishra till May 7

A court here on Monday extended the stay on further investigation into Law Minister Kapil Mishra's alleged role in the 2020 northeast Delhi riots till May 7. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja passed the order after she was told that the notice issued by the court to some of the respondents on April 9 could not be served. On April 9, the judge stayed the probe against Mishra till April 21 on an application filed by the minister against a magisterial court order. Judge Baweja issued notice to Ilyas and others on April 9 and directed them to respond by April 21. Senior advocate P K Dubey appeared for Mishra and Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad represented Delhi Police. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Vaibhav Chaurasia said on April 1 that a cognisable offence was "prima facie" found that needed to be investigated. Top Congress leaders will fan out across the country to hold press conferences between April 21 and 24 to "expose the BJP's lies" in the National Herald case, its media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said on Sunday. The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh lashed out at Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Sunday over his claim about the non-utilisation of Central funds for building a medical device park in the state, terming it an attempt at "misleading" people. Earlier in the day, Nadda, who also the BJP's national president, chastised Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu dispensation in the state as the "most corrupt" and claimed that it had returned to the Centre a sum of Rs 25 crore allocated for the construction of a medical device park. Also, the state government failed to utilise Rs 225 crore released till 2023 out of the Rs 1,000 crore allocated to the state for a bulk drug park, he has alleged. With the party expected to soon elect his successor, BJP chief J P Nadda on Sunday ruled out a return to Himchal Pradesh politics. "I am in a responsible position and there is no possibility of coming back to the state," Nadda, who was elected BJP's national president in February 2020 and has been on an extension since his three-year term ended, said at a press conference here. The BJP is in the process of picking the chiefs of several state units in the coming days to pave the way for the election of its national president, sources said earlier this week. The BJP on Saturday disassociated itself with the sharp criticism of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna by its MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma, with party president J P Nadda rejecting the comments as their personal views. "The BJP has nothing to do with the comments of MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma on the judiciary and the chief justice. BJP appoints Mansukh Mandaviya as in-charge for Puducherry polls

The BJP on Saturday appointed Union ministers Mansukh Mandaviya as party's election in-charge and Arjun Ram Meghwal as co-incharge for Puducherry Assembly polls due next year. The term of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly expires on June 15 next year. The All India N.R. Congress alliance, of which BJP is part, currently governs the Union Territory. "BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed Mansukh Mandaviya, Union minister, as election in-charge, and Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union minister, as co-incharge for the forthcoming assembly elections in Puducherry," party's national general secretary Arun Singh said notifying the appointments. Former Congress MLA Sangram Thopte has resigned from the party amid speculation that he will join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra. Govt committed to making India self-reliant in defence sector: Rajnath

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the government is committed to make the country self-reliant in the defence sector and has already taken several steps in this direction. Addressing industry representatives here, Singh said defence exports have risen from Rs 600 crore in 2014 to Rs 24,000 crore. "Our target is to achieve (exports of) Rs 50,000 crore by 2029-30," he said. The BJP-led government has taken several major steps to achieve self-reliance and declared items that will be indigenously manufactured and not imported, he noted. The defence production is at Rs 1.60 lakh crore at present and the aim is to increase it to Rs 3 lakh crore, the minister said. BJP turning Maha into desert: Aaditya slams govt over nod to projects

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Friday targeted the Devendra Fadnavis-led government for clearing projects that require felling of "lakhs of trees", including for the proposed Gargai dam to be built for supplying water to Mumbai.
