Case against producer of 'Yaariyan-2' film for hurting religious sentiments

The Punjab Police has registered a case against director Bhushan Kumar, producers Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru and actor Meezaan Jafri on the charges of hurting religious sentiments after a song in the upcoming movie "Yaariyan-2" allegedly shows the actor wearing a 'kirpan'. The FIR was registered in Jalandhar district on the complaint of a member of the Sikh Talmel Committee, Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar said on Thursday. The case was registered on Wednesday night. Police said the FIR has been registered under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code. According to a complaint lodged by Harpreet Singh, a member of the committee, the actor was seen allegedly wearing a 'kirpan' -- a symbol of Sikh faith -- in a song in the movie. Dev Kohli, lyricist of 'Baazigar' and 'Hum Aapke Hai Koun', dies at 81

Veteran lyricist Dev Kohli, known for his work in films such as Baazigar and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, died here on Saturday morning due to age-related ailments, his spokesperson said. He was 81. Kohli was being treated for age-related issues at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital and brought back to his Andheri home a few days ago. He was in hospital for almost three months, he was brought back home 10 days ago. He passed away at 4 am today due to age-related issues at his residence in Andheri, Kohli's spokesperson Pritam Sharma told PTI. The last rites will be performed at 5 pm at Oshiwara crematorium in suburban Mumbai. Kohli was born in Pakistan and moved to India post partition in 1948. The family stayed in Delhi for some time and later shifted to Dehradun. He came to Mumbai in 1964 and made his debut as a lyricist with the 1969 film Gunda. Sunny Deol-starrer "Gadar 2" has crossed Rs 400 crore mark at the domestic box office, the makers said Wednesday. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha". The movie, a Zee Studios production, released in theatres on August 11. In a press note, the makers said "Gadar" 2 collected Rs 12.10 crore on Tuesday that took its box office numbers to Rs 400.70 crore net. They claimed that "no other Indian film has amassed over Rs 10 crores net on second weekdays". Set in 1971, "Gadar 2" follows Tara Singh (Deol)'s journey to Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet Singh, played by Utkarsh Sharma, from the Pakistani Army. It also features Ameesha Patel, Manish Wadhwa and Gaurav Chopra. The first film was set during the Partition.

Cong questions withdrawal of BoB auction notice for Sunny Deol's Juhu villa

The Congress on Monday raised questions about the Bank of Baroda reportedly withdrawing the e-auction notice for the Juhu bungalow of BJP MP Sunny Deol, asking who triggered the "technical reasons" for the withdrawal. In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, "Yesterday afternoon the nation got to know that Bank of Baroda had put up the Juhu residence of BJP MP Sunny Deol for e-auction since he has not paid up Rs 56 crore owed to the Bank. This morning, in less than 24 hours, the nation has got to know that the Bank of Baroda has withdrawn the auction notice due to 'technical reasons'." "Wonder who triggered these 'technical reasons'?" he said. The state-owned Bank of Baroda had put on the block a property owned by the actor to recover Rs 56 crore through an e-auction to be held on August 25. The Gurdaspur MP, whose latest movie Gaddar 2 is a box office success having already grossed over Rs 300 crore since the release last week, has been in default on a Rs 55.
