Online grocery platform BigBasket has raised about USD 150 million from South Korea's Mirae Asset Management, UK's CDC Group, and existing investor Alibaba, according to regulatory filings. Bigbasket had raised USD 300 million in February last year from Alibaba and others. In November, it had said it was looking at raising fresh funds of up to USD 200 million. Mirae has pumped in about USD 60 million, while CDC and Alibaba have infused USD 40 million and USD 50 million, respectively, according to documents filed with the corporate affairs ministry. The grocery segment accounts for a significant portion of the unorganised retail segment in the country. Guar gum prices rose by Rs 5 to Rs 8,940 per five quintal in futures trade Friday as participants accumulated positions at current levels, spurred by rising export demand amid a firm trend at the physical markets. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, guar gum for delivery in May rose by Rs 5, or 0.06 per cent, to Rs 8,940 per five quintal with an open interest of 40,385 lots. Marketmen said positions created by traders, tracking a firming trend at the spot markets on export demand, led to the rise in the guar gum prices in futures trade here.
Zinc prices rose by 0.83 per cent to Rs 218.40 per kg in futures trade Friday, tracking a firm trend at the physical markets on the back of pick up in demand. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for April was trading higher by Rs 1.80, or 0.83 per cent, at Rs 218.40 per kg with a business turnover of 5,614 lots. Marketmen said widening of positions by participants, following pick up in demand from consuming industries, kept zinc prices higher.

The banking sector's non-performing loan (NPL) ratio improved in first nine months of current financial year but slow resolution and weak capital are likely to keep the overall pace of recovery tepid, according to global credit rating agency Fitch.Lower fresh slippages and better recoveries were instrumental in driving down the banking sector's gross NPL ratio to 10.8 per cent in April to December 2019, according to Fitch's estimate, from 11.5 per cent at fiscal year-end 2018.Indian banks, however, continue to face challenges on multiple fronts.Weak earnings, in particular government-owned banks, and thin capital buffers remain at risk from ageing provisions which stem from slow resolution of the sector's 150 billion dollar NPL stock (FY18).Overall credit costs, despite a decline in percentage terms from previous years, remained high compared with most state banks' weak pre-provision profits.As a result, several state banks reported losses in first nine months of 2018-19 while the ...

Copper prices went up by 1.03 per cent to Rs 445.95 per kg in futures trade Friday after speculators created fresh positions amid positive cues. The uptick in demand from consuming industries at the domestic spot market also fuelled the uptrend. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in March was trading higher by Rs 4.55, or 1.03 per cent, at Rs 445.95 per kg in a business turnover of 12,837 lots. A firm trend in overseas markets and rising demand from consuming industries at the physical markets led to the rise in copper prices at futures trade here, market analysts said.
