China's Premier to visit North Korea in highest-level visit since 2019

China's Premier Li Qiang will go to North Korea this week in the highest-level visit by a Chinese leader since 2019. Li will lead a government delegation from Thursday to Saturday to attend events marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of North Korea's ruling party, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Tuesday. China has long been the North Korean government's most important ally and source of support, though North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has sought to balance that in recent years by building ties with Russia. Australia, Papua New Guinea ink defence treaty, raising China's concern

The leaders of Australia and Papua New Guinea signed a major bilateral defense treaty Monday that China believes targets it unfairly. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Papua New Guinea counterpart James Marape described the agreement as a mutual defence treaty that will enable unprecedented integration of their defence forces and military personnel. It is Australia's only alliance-level security pact other than the ANZUS Treaty signed with the United States and New Zealand in 1951. It is the first such treaty for Papua New Guinea, Australia's nearest neighbour and former colony. The treaty would take effect after it was ratified by the Parliaments of both countries. Albanese said it was a great honour for Australia to have its nearest neighbour become its newest ally. Trump's 'paper tiger' jab at Russia echoes Mao's propaganda against US

Nearly 80 years after Mao Zedong called the United States a paper tiger to boost morale at home, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are exchanging barbs who is the paper tiger of today. In a September 23 post on Truth Social, Trump mocked Russia's military powers and called the country a paper tiger, prompting the Kremlin to push back.
