Ganguly stable, maintaining oxygen saturation of 99% on room air: Hospital

BCCI president and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly continues to remain stable, the hospital where he is undergoing treatment said on Wednesday. Ganguly was rushed to a city hospital on Monday night as a precautionary measure after his RT-PCR test returned positive for COVID-19. On the second day of admission, Sourav Gangly, BCCI President and former Indian cricket captain, remains haemodynamically stable, afebrile and maintaining oxygen saturation of 99% on room air. He slept well last night and has had breakfast and lunch, Dr Rupali Basu, MD & CEO of Woodlands Hospital, said in a statement. The 49-year-old had received "Monoclonal Antibody Cocktail therapy" on Monday night. The medical board is keeping a close watch on his health status, the statement read. Ganguly was admitted to hospital twice earlier this year and underwent emergency angioplasty after having some cardiac issues. His elder brother Snehasish Ganguly had also tested positive for COVID early this year.

UK return youth tests positive for Omicron in Siddharthnagar

Omicron infection has been confirmed in a youth who recently returned here from abroad, a senior official said on Wednesday. The 21-year-old, resident of Uska police station area here, lives in Britain. When he landed at the Delhi airport on Sunday evening, he had rapid antigen and RT-PCR tests done and was sent home after the antigen test did not confirm the infection but later his RT-PCR report came positive, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr A.K Singh said on Wednesday. The CMO said that he was informed through an e-mail from the Health Department of Delhi that the youth's report after genome sequencing has confirmed Omicron infection. The health department team has informed the youth and put him in isolation at his home, the CMO added.

President Joe Biden revokes southern Africa travel restrictions

US President Joe Biden has ended the COVID-19 related travel restriction imposed last month on the eight southern African nations due to the spread of coronavirus variant Omicron."In light of these changed circumstances, and based on the recommendation of the CDC, I have determined that it is in the interests of the United States to revoke Proclamation 10315. The travel restrictions imposed by that proclamation are no longer necessary to protect the public health," said Biden in his presidential proclamation on Tuesday. This proclamation is effective at 12:01 am eastern standard time on December 31.Having learned more about the Omicron variant in the past several weeks, the CDC now recommends lifting the travel restrictions, read the proclamation."Importantly, scientific experts have determined that people who are vaccinated against COVID-19 are protected against severe disease and hospitalization from the Omicron variant. Moreover, the Omicron variant has now spread to more than 100 .
