West Bengal on Sunday logged 2,659 fresh Covid-19 infections, down from 2,839 the previous day, pushing the caseload to 20,70,858, the health department said in a bulletin. Five more deaths due to the disease raised the toll to 21,276, the bulletin said. Altogether 20,18,791 people have recovered from the disease in the state, 2,476 of them since Saturday. Bengal currently has 30,791 active cases, with 544 of them undergoing treatment in various hospitals. The positivity rate stood at 17.16 per cent and the fatality rate at 1.03 per cent. As many as 2,57,97,505 samples have been tested in the state thus far, including 15,492 since Saturday.
At least 38 students of a private school in Nagpur city in Maharashtra have tested positive for coronavirus, an official said on Sunday. Nagpur district on Sunday reported 262 fresh COVID-19 cases, including 100 infections from Nagpur city, taking the overall tally to 5,69,690. The cumulative COVID-19 death toll so far stood at 10,339, as per an official release. "Samples of the students of a private school in Jaitala area in Nagpur city were taken on Friday. As per the test results which became available on Sunday, 38 students have been found infected with coronavirus," a district health official told PTI. Nagpur district has 1,221 active cases.
Delhi on Sunday recorded 498 fresh Covid cases with a positivity rate of 3.57 per cent, while one more person died due to the viral disease, according to data shared by the health department here. With this, the capital's COVID-19 caseload climbed to 19,44,015, while the death toll rose to 26,292, the bulletin stated. The fresh cases came out of 13,959 tests conducted the previous day, it said. Delhi had on Saturday recorded 491 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 3.48 per cent and two fatalities. Gujarat on Sunday reported 644 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 12,42,731, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,954, a state health department official said. The recovery count rose by 500 and reached 12,27,001, which left the state with an active caseload of 4,776, he added. Ahmedabad led with 272 cases, followed by 90 in Surat, 46 in Vadodara, 36 in Mehsana, 32 in Bhavnagar, among other districts, the official said. Mumbai on Sunday reported 276 COVID-19 cases at a positivity rate of 2.59 per cent and two fatalities, taking the tally to 11,21,095 and the toll to 19,632, a civic official said. A day earlier, the metropolis had logged 365 cases and two deaths due to COVID-19, he said. Of the 376 new cases, only 24 were symptomatic, the official added. The recovery count rose by 397 to reach 10,99,163, which left the city with an active caseload of 2,300, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said. He said the overall number of coronavirus tests in the city stood at 1,76,98,650, including 10,656 in the last 24 hours, down from 11,442 in the preceding 24-hour period. Civic data revealed the recovery rate was 98 per cent and the overall growth rate of cases between July 10 and 16 was 0.03 per cent. It showed that the caseload doubling time in the metropolis now stood at 2,279 days.
Maharashtra on Sunday reported 2,186 new coronavirus positive cases and three deaths linked to the infection, the health department said.
