The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday completed underground tunnel between Chhatarpur and Chhatarpur Mandir stations on Phase-4 Golden Line, officials said. A 97-metre-long tunnel boring machine (TBM) broke through on Saturday morning at Chhatarpur Mandir station after boring an 860-metre-long tunnel, they said. Two parallel circular tunnels for up and down movement have been constructed on this stretch as part of the AerocityTughlakabad corridor. The breakthrough on the other parallel tunnel was achieved on August 21, the officials said. This new tunnel has been constructed at an average depth of approximately 12 metres. About 613 rings have been installed in the tunnel, with an inner diameter of 5.8 meters, DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said. To combat rising crime rates and ensure the safety of passengers travelling in the Delhi Metro, the city police has implemented a new security strategy under which they will deploy officers in plain clothes at vulnerable metro stations during peak hours. The step was taken after the city police conducted a 'temporal and spatial analysis' to review its security plan as the national capital has witnessed a surge in ridership in recent months, leading to a corresponding increase in crime reports, official sources from police said. The 'temporal and spatial', are terms that refer to time and space. The data was collected from 190 metro stations to determine the time at which crime incidents remained high at stations. By analysing data from these 190 stations, the police identified 32 metro stations susceptible to theft, harassment, and other offences. Delhi Metro has recorded 13 of its highest passenger journeys in the past one month, with daily commuters ranging from over 72 lakh to 78 lakh, according to an official statement issued here on Friday. In response to the increased ridership, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to run one extra train on all its lines on Fridays and Saturdays, officials said. "The passenger journeys registered by the Delhi Metro in the past four days have turned out to be among the top five journeys performed in the metro network, with the highest ever passenger journeys record made on August 20 at 77,49,682," DMRC's Principal Executive Director (Corporate Communication) Anuj Dayal, said. "In view of the increased passenger journeys, the DMRC has decided to run one extra train on all its Lines performing 84 extra train trips on Friday and Saturday. The Delhi Metro passengers can travel with a digital smart card for their daily journey from Friday as the DMRC has introduced the 'Multiple Journey QR Ticket' (MJQRT) facility in its existing mobile application. Like a metro smart card, the passengers can also recharge MJQRT with a maximum amount of up to Rs 3,000 as per their travel requirements. The statement from the DMRC comes days after the Delhi Police wrote a letter to the urban transporter to take measures to prevent security breaches and suicides on its premises. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has redesigned its Phase-4 construction plan to save 69 trees on the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg Corridor, officials said on Monday. They said that permission was received for felling overall 15,508 trees across Delhi for this phase, and approval was awaited for cutting 71 more on the Majlis ParkMaujpur Corridor. "The DMRC has redesigned its construction plans to avoid felling of 69 trees on the Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg corridor. Earlier, permission was sought for these trees as well. "For Phase-4 works overall, permission has been received for the cutting of 15,508 trees across Delhi. Out of these, 5,003 trees have been cut and over 7,000 have been transplanted," the official stated. The DMRC makes provisions for the plantation of 10 trees for each tree cut or transplanted for construction. Ahead of Independence Day, the DMRC on Sunday advised people not to fly kites in the vicinity of elevated metro lines passing through residential areas for their safety and to prevent disruption of metro services. "As kite flying gathers pace around August 15, there is a likelihood of kite strings getting entangled in the OHE (overhead equipment) wires or getting stuck in the pantograph (which draws power from OHE) of a moving train if kites are flown in the area of elevated metro lines," Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said in an advisory.
