Insurance scam case: CBI searches at 12 locations in Rajasthan, Delhi

The CBI on Wednesday conducted searches at premises of the then aide of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, and 11 other locations in Delhi and Rajasthan in the alleged insurance scam case, officials said. They said CBI teams started a search operation early this morning at the residence of Malik's then aide Saunak Bali, Chartered Accountant Sanjay Narang, Virender Singh Rana and Kanwar Singh Rana, Priyanka Chowdhary and Anita in Delhi and Rajasthan. According to an updated information from the agency, the searches are spread across 10 places in Delhi and two districts in Rajasthan. The agency move comes within a month of questioning Malik on April 28. The search operation was necessitated after the analysis of financial documents, digital evidence and statements of accused and other persons in the case, they said. HC directs NGO to vacate Basti Vikas Kendra for Delhi-Dehradun Expressway

Delhi High Court has directed an NGO to vacate a Basti Vikas Kendra, built on public land in east Delhi and required by the National Highways Authority of India for the construction of the elevated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The high court asked petitioner NGO Asha Community Health Development Society to vacate the Basti Vikas Kendra (BVK) after taking all its belongings on or before May 14 and said the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be free to carry out its demolition or construction activity in the area from May 15. A meeting shall be held between Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), NHAI and Delhi Development Authority/Railways officials to agree upon the schedule for reconstruction of the BVK post the completion of work on the elevated corridor. "In these overall circumstances, the court is not inclined to grant a stay on the construction of the elevated corridor and demolition of the BVK," Justice Prathiba M Singh said in the order dated May 8. Delhi posts impressive growth in stamp duty collection in 2022-23

In a sign of the real estate business regaining its robust pre-Covid form in the national capital, the stamp duty revenue of the Delhi government registered 2.5 times growth in 2022-23, the highest in nearly past one decade, officials said on Monday. The collection of stamps and registration of properties taxes documents registered 2.5 times increase in 2022-23, as compared to Rs 2,308.19 crore in 2013-14, showed official documents. The amount included Rs 4,668.72 crore collected as stamp duty, Rs 889.73 crore as registration fee and Rs 178.27 crore as court fee paid online for cases being heard in revenue courts in the capital, in 2022-23, the officials said. As compared to 2021-22, hit by COVID-19 and subsequent lockdowns, collection of stamp and registration fee in 2022-23 recorded around 16 per cent hike, the data showed. Delhi govt hospitals carry out mock drills to assess Covid-19 preparedness

Delhi government-run hospitals carried out mock drills on Sunday to assess their COVID-19 preparedness, amid a spurt in the number of coronavirus cases in the city. The Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, which was a mainstay in the national capital's fight against Covid-19, carried out a two-hour-long mock drill. "We assessed the patient response time. When a patient is brought to the hospital, how long does it take for us to shift him to a room. "For critical patients who need to be shifted to the ICU, we have a red corridor. We checked whether all the ventilators and oxygen points were functioning. We have around 450 beds for coronavirus patients," Dr Suresh Kumar, the medical director of LNJP Hospital, told PTI. The senior doctor said the bed occupancy at the LNJP hospital was zero in the last one month. The scenario has changed in the last few days, the doctor said. NDMA organises mock drill to test earthquake readiness in Delhi NCR

The National Disaster Management Authority and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority organised a mock drill on Friday to test earthquake readiness in the National Capital Region, which falls under seismic zone IV, officials said. The mock drill was held in all 11 district of Delhi and neighbouring NCR areas of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, days after the region was hit by tremors on two consecutive days. According to Fire Services officials, 55 water tenders were deployed across Delhi as part of the drill. Mock drills being conducted to minimise earthquake damage: Officials

As strong tremors jolted Delhi-NCR and other parts of northern India, officials on Wednesday said awareness programmes and mock drills are some of the measures being taken by the government to minimise earthquake damage. O P Mishra, the director at the Ministry of Earth Sciences' National Centre for Seismology (NCS), said earthquake risk mitigation awareness programmes are being held and mock drills are also being conducted in order to educate people about the dos and don'ts during an earthquake.
