Commercial vehicles below BS-IV to be barred from entering Delhi from Sat

Starting Saturday, commercial goods vehicles that do not meet BS-IV standards will be prohibited from entering Delhi. To enforce this regulation, multiple teams from the Transport Department and Traffic Police will be deployed, officials said. The transport department, in collaboration with the traffic police, has formed 23 teams for enforcement purposes. "We have chalked out a plan to monitor these vehicles. There are 23 points from where 90 per cent of the vehicles enter Delhi. There are 23 teams that have been formed. These include traffic police personnel and the transport department's enforcement officers. They will be deployed at designated locations and will turn back vehicles not meeting norms," said a senior official. Anticipating that thousands of devotees would gather at various ghats for Chhath Puja in the next two days, Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday announced traffic restrictions and diversions across several parts of the city. According to the advisory, traffic flow is expected to be affected from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning on roads adjoining major Chhath Puja ponds. Commuters have been advised to avoid stretches near ghats and use public transport wherever possible. Amid festive celebrations in the national capital and with heavy traffic anticipated during Ramleela and Dussehra events, the Delhi Traffic Police on Thursday issued advisory urging commuters to avoid certain stretches, follow diversions and plan their journeys in advance. In connection with the Ramleela celebrations at DDA Utsav Ground, IP Extension, between 5 pm and 11 pm on Thursday, officials said heavy pedestrian movement and traffic congestion are likely in and around the venue.
