Delhi's manufacturing growth 3 times higher than national rate: Report

Delhi's manufacturing sector registered a strong growth of 11.9 per cent in 2024-25, nearly three times higher than the national growth of 4.1 per cent, indicating a sharper industrial recovery at the local level, according to a report. The annual report (2024-25) on the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in the national capital was released recently by the Delhi government's Directorate of Economics and Statistics. The overall industrial output of Delhi in 2024-25, as compared to 2023-24, rose by 9.19 per cent, while the national growth was recorded at 4 per cent, the report said. The report, using the base year 2011-12, has been compiled using production data from 134 manufacturing units and one electricity unit in Delhi. These units are involved in the production of 90 different categories of items. Nine out of 23 manufacturing units showed a positive growth in the IIP during 2024-25 as compared to 2023-24. These included food products, leather and related products, motor .

SpiceJet flight returns mid-air, lands in Pune after technical glitch

A Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight from Pune made a mid-air turnback to the originating airport due to a technical glitch on Monday and landed under full emergency conditions, a source said. The aircraft landed safely and passengers were deplaned normally, SpiceJet said in a statement. "SpiceJet Boeing 737 aircraft, bearing registration VT-SLG was midway diverted back to Pune airport due to a technical glitch. Rohini fire destroys 40-45 shanties in Delhi; no casualties reported

Several shanties were gutted after a massive fire broke out in a cluster of jhuggis in the Shahbad Daulatpur area close to Rohini's Sector 18 on Sunday evening, officials said. According to the police, about 40 to 45 temporary huts in Bengali Basti, Shahbad Daulatpur, were engulfed in flames. Firefighters were seen extinguishing the blaze while standing on piles of bricks from the destroyed shanties, with thick smoke filling the air. The fire lit up the night sky across the stretch of land, while teams of the Delhi Fire Service, police and other concerned authorities remained on the site overseeing the firefighting and relief measures. A Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said they received the call about the fire at 7:01 PM, after which 10 fire tenders were dispatched to the location. 40% of Delhi students take pvt tuition, twice the national average: Survey

Nearly four out of ten school students in Delhi take private coaching, much higher than the all-India average of one in four, according to the National Sample Survey's Comprehensive Modular Survey on Education. At the top was Tripura, where 78.6 per cent of students reported taking private coaching, followed by West Bengal and Odisha. To improve ease of doing business and streamline land allotment in the national capital, the Delhi government will be developing a portal that will serve as a centralised platform to help investors identify suitable land parcels, officials said. The decision for developing this portal was taken at a recent review meeting held by the Ministry of Home Affairs on compliance reduction and deregulation in Union Territories, they added. The portal will be developed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), with map-based data support from the Geospatial Delhi Limited (GSDL), they added. Delhi has recorded its wettest August in the past 15 years, with 399.8 mm of rainfall reported so far, according to data. Delhi is set to cement its place as the country's Electric Vehicle (EV) capital with 7,000 to 8,000 new electric buses on its roads by February 2026, Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said on Monday. At present, the city has 3,400 electric buses, ?up from 400 when Singh took charge. The fleet is expected to grow to 6,000 by the end of this year, he said.
