Repair work on Munak Canal likely to complete by Friday night, says Atishi

Delhi Water Minister Atishi has said the ongoing repair work on the Munak Canal is likely to be completed by Friday night. A breach in one of the sub-branches of the Munak Canal, which supplies water from Haryana to Delhi, late Wednesday led to knee-deep waterlogging in several parts of the Bawana area. It also affected the water supply in different parts of the city. Once the repair work is completed, the water supply from the Dwarka water treatment plant will be restored on Saturday morning, Atishi said. Talking about the canal breach and its repair work, Atishi said, "The Munak Canal was breached the day before yesterday after its entry into Delhi, with nearly 15 metres of the embankment damaged. Since then, teams from the Haryana Irrigation Department and Delhi Jal Board have been working on it. The embankment has been rebuilt. "The process of concrete-lining is underway; we are hopeful that the Dwarka water treatment plant will restart by 9 or 10 am tomorrow," she said. Speak

Tomato prices surge to Rs 90 per kg in Delhi markets amid supply woes

Tomato prices in the city markets surged to Rs 90 per kg as supplies have taken a hit due to monsoon rains lashing many states across the country, several vegetable vendors said on Tuesday. The rates of tomatoes have also gone up in the major wholesale vegetable markets of Delhi, including Azadpur Mandi, Ghazipur Mandi, and Okhla Sabzi Mandi. Several residents in the city expressed disappointment over the rising prices of tomatoes in their local markets and online retailing platforms. "Just a few days back, we bought tomatoes for Rs 28 kg but now it is selling for Rs 90 kg online and in the local market. Vegetables have become costlier," said a local of Laxmi Nagar locality. "The rates have soared up to Rs 50 kg even in wholesale markets due to the rains. This is because the supply of tomatoes has decreased in the past one week. The number of trucks that used to ferry these farm produce from states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Himachal have gone down because of heavy rains ...

BJP should present docs to prove Kejriwal okayed tree felling in Ridge: AAP

The ruling AAP on Saturday challenged the BJP to present documents to prove that trees were felled in the Ridge area after the approval of the Delhi chief minister. The BJP has found an opportunity to do politics in this matter and since Friday, it has been showing some documents saying that these trees were felled on the orders of Kejriwal, AAP chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said. "This is impossible because only the Supreme Court can give permission for the felling of trees from the Ridge area. If the BJP has such documents, then they should stop drama and put these papers before the Supreme Court," she said. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor hit back and alleged AAP was "misleading" people. "All the documents we have shared have signatures of the Delhi Chief Minister and Environment minister. The AAP government can not escape responsibility as the party leaders are misleading people by saying the permission was related to a different project," he said. AAP sourc

Delhi CM victim of deep conspiracy, falsely arrested by ED: Sunita Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal alleged on Saturday that he was made the victim of a "deep political conspiracy" and arrested by the ED in the excise policy case based on a false statement by a witness. In a video message, she said Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED based on the statement of TDP MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MSR). The Telugu Desam Party is a constituent of the ruling NDA. Sunita Kejriwal also asked people to support the Delhi chief minister, saying he is an honest, educated and patriotic man, and if the public does not support him, no educated person would want to join politics given the treatment meted out to the AAP leader. She claimed that MSR changed his statement to the ED about his meeting with the Delhi chief minister after his son Raghava Magunta Reddy was arrested and bail was denied.

Excise scam: Delhi HC asks CBI to respond to Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea

The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the CBI to respond to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea in the corruption case registered by the CBI in connection with the alleged excise policy scam. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna issued a notice to the CBI on the bail plea and listed it for further hearing on July 17. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, said the AAP leader is not a flight risk and not a terrorist and the CBI arrested him after he got bail in the ED's money laundering case. Advocate DP Singh, appearing for the CBI, raised objection over Kejriwal directly approaching the HC without first filing the bail plea before the trial court. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener was arrested by the CBI on June 26 from Tihar Jail, where he is still lodged in judicial custody in a connected money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Kejriwal, who was arrested by the ED on March 21, was granted bail by the trial court in the money ..

Companies resort to 'office peacocking' to retain, lure employees: Report

To retain employees and bring them back to office, many companies are resorting to 'Office Peacocking', which involves creating a swanky or fancy work space, and spending huge amounts of their budget on attractive designs, says industry experts. The 'Office Peacocking' concept gained significant traction in India post-Covid, as companies sought to entice employees back to the office following the remote work shift induced by the pandemic in order to compete with the comfort of home offices, human resource service provider TeamLease Services CEO-Staffing Kartik Narayan told PTI. Peacocking involves redesigning office spaces with stylish decor, trendy furniture, cosy corners, natural light, and well-stocked pantries to create an inviting and vibrant work environment. The goal is to make the office more attractive and enjoyable for employees, enhancing their willingness to return to in-person work. AAP questions BJP's 'silence' on tree felling in Ridge area

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday questioned the BJP's silence over the "illegal" felling of trees in the ridge area, and said the party's stand on Delhi's pollution is just "politics". Addressing a press conference, AAP senior leader Jasmine Shah said that since the issue has surfaced, the BJP and Lt Governor VK Saxena have maintained "silence" over it. "BJP is the first to do politics over the issue of pollution and shed crocodile tears over it. They have stalled many works of the Delhi government over the pollution issue. Why are they silent?" he said. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is alleged to have cut 1,100 trees without due permission. The Supreme Court, hearing a case related to the matter, has directed the Delhi government and the civic agencies to discuss comprehensive measures to enhance the city's green cover. Shah also asked if officers of the DDA and the forest department were under pressure from their higher-ups over the matter. He claimed that the officials w
