US, Russian warships 'nearly collide' in Pacific

Real Madrid sign Eden Hazard for five years
Real Madrid have agreed on a deal to sign Chelsea forward Eden Hazard for a five-year term.Hazard will join Real Madrid for the next five seasons until June 30, 2024, a statement from the club said.Real Madrid said that Hazard will be officially presented on June 13 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, after undergoing a medical with the club.The 28-year-old Belgian leaves Chelsea after the club won the Europa League title last month, defeating Arsenal 4-1 in Baku, Azerbaijan. '91M Africans fall ill every year after consuming poor quality meals'

Boat carrying 38 capsizes in Pak; kills 3 sisters
Three sisters were drowned as a boat carrying 38 passengers capsized due to overloading in Pakistan's northwest region on Friday, police said. The boat with 38 passengers on board capsized at Kundal dam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Swabi district due to overloading. While three sisters drowned during the incident, rest of the passengers were rescued safely. "The rescue team safely rescued 35 passengers and later recovered the bodies of three sisters," police said. The bodies of those drowned were handed over to their relatives for burial. Speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser and KPK local government minister Shahram Khan Tarkai, who belong to swabi district, expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the incident.

Heatwave conditions are likely to continue in north and central India next week, the India Meteorological Department has said. The meteorological department has predicted a "severe heatwave" in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Vidarbha in Maharashtra from Saturday till Tuesday. "Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh and south Uttar Pradesh on most of the days during (the next one) week," the IMD said. There is a likelihood of similar temperature to continue, especially after the subdued rainfall over major parts of India. It is likely that the severity of the heat over eastern India could also increase. Stringent measures in place in Goa for food safety: Minister
The Goa government has put in place stringent measures to maintain food safety standards for the health of citizens, state minister Vishwajit Rane said on Friday. His statement comes hours after Goa was awarded one of the best performing states on the national food safety performance index. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan presented the award at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Friday. "I feel extremely proud to share that on World Food Safety Day, Goa has been awarded one of the best performing states based on national food safety performance index for the period April 2018 to March 2019," Rane said. "We are working continuously on our efforts to ensure food safety and make sure stringent measures are in place when it comes to the health of our citizens. Capsized lifeboat leaves three dead in French storm
Three rescuers from the French lifeboat service died Friday when their vessel capsized in rough seas caused by a giant storm pummelling the country's Atlantic. "In late morning, a boat from the SNSM capsized 800 metres from the coast around the Sables d'Olonne with seven people on board," the local prosecutor's offices said in a statement sent to AFP. Maha drought: Shiv Sena to begin foodgrain distribution drive
The Shiv Sena will distribute foodgrains to farmers staying in fodder camps in nine drought-affected districts of Maharashtra, a party statement informed Friday. Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will kick-off the initiative on June 9, in memory of late party supremo Bal Thackeray, in Salegaon village in Jalna district, nearly 400 kilometres from here, a release said. There are 34 fodder camps in Jalna and 28 in Aurangabad, it said. Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray will be in Solapur district and will also travel to Mohol, Solapur South, Solapur North, Akkalkot and Barshi, it added. The statement said other Sena leaders, under Maharashtra Industries Minister Subhash Desai, will oversee the distribution of drought material in other districts. Massive efforts are on to locate the AN-32 transport aircraft by the Air Force deploying navy's P-8I aircraft and Global 5000 surveillance aircraft along with NTRO satellites on the fifth day since it went missing from the skies of Arunachal Pradesh.The P-8I aircraft undertook a search mission from INS Rajali, Arakonnam, Tamil Nadu, this morning to locate the missing AN-32 aircraft. It is equipped with special radars and sensors. A severe dust storm and lightning in various parts of Uttar Pradesh claimed at least 26 lives and left 57 people injured as houses and walls collapsed and trees were uprooted, prompting authorities to launch large-scale relief operations on Friday. Mainpuri district bore the worst brunt of the vagaries of nature late on Thursday night as six people died there in separate cases of wall collapse and lightning, the state relief commissioner said. Forty-one people were injured in the district and uprooted trees blocked vehicular movement on the state highways, leading to massive jams for a considerable amount of time.
