Maharastra: Snake found in mid-day meal of government school

A government school in Nanded came under fire after a snake was found in the mid-day meal that was being served to students.There are no reports so far if any student has consumed the meal.The incident took place on Thursday in Garagwhan Zilla Parishad primary school located in Hadgaon tehsil of Nanded district after the school staff started serving the 'khichdi', they found the snake in the large vessel.Soon as the matter came into light, the school administration stopped serving the meal and prevented around 80 girl-student from consuming it.The parents of girl reached school and demanded the woman who made the meal to be terminated and legal action school be taken against her.When contacted, the Nanded Education Department officials denied the claims and said that incident never happened. Delhi govt issues show cause notices to govt school vice-principal, librarian, teacher over lapses

The Delhi government has issued show cause notices to the vice-principal, librarian and a teacher of a government school in Pusa, seeking their reply within three days after an inspection team from the Directorate of Education found serious lapses in its functioning, officials said. The inspection was carried out by the Directorate of Education at the Government Boys Senior Secondary School IARI Pusa on January 29 and it was found that out of 914 students, 135 were absent accounting for 13 per cent of the total strength. The team also found that in one of the classes of the school, majority of the students did not have separate notebooks for English and in rare cases, where the students had prepared notebooks, they had not been checked by the concerned guest teacher since November last year, a report prepared by the DoE said. The inspection team found that the issue registers of a number of classes had many pages left completely blank, which meant no books were issued to the students .

CBSE to provide counselling to students from Feb 1 to cope with exam stress

The Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) will provide psychological counselling to students and parents from Friday to overcome exam-related stress, the board said Thursday. The 22nd edition of the psychological counselling service, focusing on resolving issues related to exam stress, will end on April 4 and will be available between 8 am to 10 pm on all days, they added. From this year, the CBSE has introduced the facility of Interactive Voice Response System on a toll-free number from where the students/parents/stakeholders can obtain a pre-recorded useful information on tackling board exams which includes tips for better preparation, time and stress management, FAQs along with live telecounselling services. The CBSE telecounselling is offered by school principals and trained counsellors from within the CBSE affiliated schools located in and outside India, the board said, adding that it is a voluntary, free of cost service provided by the participants. Indefinite hunger strike by IIIT, Kalyani students

The indefinite hunger strike by a section of students of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Kalyani entered the fifth day on Thursday. The students are on indefinite hunger strike since Sunday demanding shifting of their institute to a campus of a national level technical institute. The IIIT Kalyani located in Nadia district was established four years back on a PPP model. The institute is now functioning from the Webel IT Park here as it does not have a campus of its own. The students first started a strike about 10-days back and from Sunday they have started the indefinite hunger strike. Seven students including a girl fell ill during the hunger strike and were admitted to Kalyani JNM Hospital. The students admitted to hospital have been released from hospital, officials said. RTI Act reduced to joke: DU to HC on requests like seeking PM's degree

The Delhi University Thursday contended before the Delhi High Court that the RTI Act has been reduced to a "joke" with queries seeking records of all students who had passed BA examination in 1978, including that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The submission was made before Justice A J Bhambhani who fixed the matter for further hearing on February 4, when other similar petitions were also listed. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for DU, said, "The RTI Act has been reduced to a joke with such queries. Degrees of two public functionaries were sought. One is the honourable prime minister and the other is a minister." Referring to some of the provisions of the Right To Information (RTI) Act, the law officer said personal information is never to be given unless there is some public interest. President Ram Nath Kovind Thursday said the government is setting up more than 5,000 Atal Tinkering Labs for "taking ideas to innovation", while stressing that a multi-dimensional approach is being followed to improve the standard of education. Addressing the joint sitting of Parliament at the beginning of the Budget session, Kovind said the government is establishing new educational institutions to provide increased opportunities for professional education of the highest standard. Report blasts Michigan State's handling of sex cases

A US Department of Education report says Michigan State University's failure to detect and stop sexual assaults by now-imprisoned sports doctor Larry Nassar indicates a lack of institutional control. The report also accuses the East Lansing school of being out of compliance in areas under the Clery Act, which requires universities participating in student aid programs under Title IV to provide the campus community with information about public safety issues. Hundreds of girls and women said Nassar sexually molested them while working for Michigan State and Indiana-based USA Gymnastics. Eleven who told university or campus security officials about the assaults are listed in the report. The report also says no warnings were issued about 21 burglaries and other crimes from 2011 to 2016. School spokeswoman Emily Guerrant said Wednesday that Michigan State is working on a formal response to federal officials.

Aiming to connect high school American students of Indian descent to their homeland, a top Indian-American organisation has announced a three-week fully funded scholarship programme for them to travel to India. Stray cattle menace: Villagers lock cows in UP school

A case has been registered against 24 people for allegedly evicting students and teachers of a government primary school in Uttar Pradesh to keep stray cows, officials said Thursday. It has been alleged that villagers in Kudana brought the cows inside the school on Wednesday and closed it, Shamli District Magistrate Akhilesh Kumar said. In December, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed officials to make immediate arrangements for proper care of stray cows within a week.
