LNG-powered truck maker Blue Energy Motors on Wednesday said it plans to invest Rs 3,500-crore for setting up an electric trucks production plant in Maharashtra to fuel the state's green energy transition. Under the terms of an initial pact, announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Blue Energy Motors will establish a dedicated facility for advanced electric (EV) trucks that will house advanced R&D capabilities, battery-pack line, motor manufacturing unit and set up charging stations as well, the company said. The proposed projects are slated to commence in the next financial year, Blue Energy Motors said. This investment, according to the company, is expected to generate direct employment for over 4,000 people. Electric vehicle charging solutions maker Exicom TeleSystems sees a boost to its business from the expansion in EV portfolios by major brands and uptake of the technology in overseas markets as well, a top official of the company said. Electric vehicle sales in India crossed 14.08 lakh units in 2024, achieving a market penetration rate of 5.59 per cent, up from 4.44 per cent in the previous year, Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy said on Saturday. The minister asserted that the upward trend in EV adoption underscores the growing public trust in electric vehicles, as well as the positive impact of government incentives and industry innovation. "Total EV sales in calendar year 2024 reached 14,08,245 - a penetration of 5.59 per cent, up from 10,22,994 in calendar year 2023, which stood at 4.44 per cent," the minister for Heavy Industries and Steel said at a Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) event here.
