Ride-hailing app SnapE, which operates EV cabs, is planning to more than double its current fleet by the end of FY'24, and venture into smaller cities, a company official said on Tuesday. The company also plans to induct more women drivers in its workforce, said Mayank Bindal, the managing director of EC Wheels, which operates under the SnapE brand. "Besides expanding in the greater Kolkata region, which is our base, we plan to venture into smaller cities such as Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Varanasi, Raipur, Indore, Bhopal, Jaipur and Ahmedabad over the next few years because of the potential of the untapped market," he told PTI in an interview. Next EV policy to boost charging infra: Delhi transport commissioner

Delhi Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra on Monday said the next electric vehicle policy will be focussed on enhancing the charging infrastructure and expanding the financing basket for rolling out purchase incentives. The EV policy expired on August 8 after which the Delhi government extended the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, 2020. Kundra was speaking at a summit on clean transport organised by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) along with the Indian G20 Secretariat. The commissioner said the government will now go in for an electrification target under which by 2025, 80 per cent of the bus fleet would be electric. He said that the newer vehicle segment that could be targeted in the next EV policy could be light and medium-duty trucks or goods vehicles that are into intra-city operations. "For instance, garbage tippers or tankers or even school buses could be thought of," he said at the event.

Sugar body ISMA seeks 5% GST on flex-fuel vehicles in line with EVs

Sugar industry body ISMA on Monday sought GST rate of 5 per cent for vehicles using flex fuels, same as that on electric vehicles, in order to accelerate adoption of blending of ethanol with petrol as fuel for automobiles. Flex fuel vehicles (FFVs) use a mix of petrol and ethanol at various degrees. India has achieved E10 (10 per cent ethanol in petrol) and is targeting E20 by 2025. In a statement, Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) said that presently, FFVs are levied with a GST rate of 28 per cent while the GST is 5 per cent on electric vehicles (EVs). This move will directly contribute to reducing India's fuel bill while simultaneously curbing carbon emissions from the transportation sector, it said. ISMA has made a representation to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for a relaxation in Goods and Services Tax (GST) on FFVs. "Presently, FFVs are levied with a GST rate of 28 per cent, a notable contrast to the 5% GST rate applicable to electric vehicles. We request pari

SMEV seeks clarity from Heavy Industries Ministry over refund of subsidies

Electric two-wheeler makers body SMEV on Friday sought clarifications from the Ministry of Heavy Industries about its claim for refund of subsidies from some OEMs who did not comply with phased manufacturing programme (PMP) norms. Pointing out that the basis for refund would only mean that the processing of subsidies and the official reimbursement was done faultily, it has asked for the ministry (MHI) to clarify if it intends to thus cancel all subsidy claims during this period for all OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), SMEV said in a letter to Heavy Industries Secretary Kamran Rizvi. The letter also sought the legal basis for the refund amounts since they do not conform to any stated mechanism in the rules. SMEV had earlier offered a solution to the issue through recovery from customers directly which would have cleaned off the subsidy slate completely. "The Ministry is in debt to OEMs to the tune of Rs 1,200 crore. If their demand for refund of earlier paid subsidies to the

JSW Group working on plans to make its own EVs, says Sajjan Jindal

JSW Group, which is in talks with MG Motor India to enter the EV space, is also working on a parallel plan to make its own electric vehicles, Chairman Sajjan Jindal said on Friday. Discussions are underway with MG Motor, Jindal said. "We are extremely serious about entering the EV space. MG would be our preferred choice. If it happens, otherwise we are also working parallely to develop our own EV cars," he said on the sidelines of B20 Summit India 2023. EV is an area where JSW Group must enter as it is the future and this is a good time to make foray into this space, Jindal said. In January, JSW Group Chief Financing Officer Seshagiri Rao had told PTI that manufacturing of electric vehicles was being discussed actively at the group level. The group was looking to manufacture electric four-wheelers, Rao had said. JSW Group has a significant presence in sectors like steel, energy, infrastructure, cement, paints, venture capital and sports.
