Employees' State Insurance Corporation adds 20.23 lakh new members in May

Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has added 20.23 lakh new subscribers in May 2023, according to the latest payroll data. The provisional payroll data of ESIC reveals that 20.23 lakh new employees have been added in May 2023, a labour ministry statement said. Around 24,886 new establishments have been registered and brought under the social security umbrella of the Employees' State Insurance Corporation in May 2023, thus ensuring more coverage, it stated. According to the data, more jobs have been generated for the youth of the nation as out of the total 20.23 lakh employees added during May 2023, 9.40 lakh employees up to the age group of 25 years constitute the majority of new registrations, which is 47 per cent of the total employees. Gender-wise analysis of payroll data indicates that the net enrolment of female members has been 3.96 lakh in May 2023. Kerala govt to deduct salary of 'dying in harness' employees flouting rule

The Kerala government on Wednesday decided to take strict action against those who gained government jobs under the dying in harness provision if they were found neglecting other dependents of the deceased employee. The decision was taken by the state cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Cabinet noted that the employees who enter the service under such a provision were liable to protect other dependents of the deceased employees. It decided to issue an order authorising the appointing authorities to deduct 25 per cent of the monthly basic pay of such employees who do not protect their dependents and pay it to the eligible dependents. If the employees joining the service under the dying in harness provision do not take care of the needs of their dependents, including food, property, shelter, treatment, and care, they can lodge a written complaint against the said employee with the appointing authority. A significant percentage of female blue collar employees in India are confident they receive equal pay, says a survey. According to leading job site Indeed's report titled 'The Pulse of India's Blue Collar Workforce', over 95 per cent of Indian female blue collar employees are confident they receive equal pay and 93 per cent of male employees have also said the same. The research was conducted by Censuswide on behalf of Indeed with 508 employers and 1,001 employees in the blue collar segment. The survey examined the state of men and women representation among the blue collar workforce in India and how blue collar organisations measure up in terms of diversity and work culture.
