'Rocketman' a different animal: Egerton on comparisons with 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

Taron Egerton believes his upcoming musical drama "Rocketman" is a completely "different animal" from last year's blockbuster "Bohemian Rhapsody". The actor portrays music icon Elton John in the upcoming biopic, which has been directed by Dexter Fletcher. "Bohemian Rhapsody", which was based on the life of Freddie Mercury and Queen, featured Rami Malek as the band's frontman. The actor won Oscar for Best Actor at the 91st Academy Awards this year for his performance in the film. Fletcher completed "Bohemian Rhapsody" in December 2017 after filmmaker Bryan Singer was fired from the project by 20th Century Fox over his repeated absences from the film's set. Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, where "Rocketman" had its world premiere, Egerton said, "That ('Bohemian Rhapsody') movie is unicorn". Bobby Cannavale, Ashley Benson join 'Lapham Rising'

"Ant-Man" star Bobby Cannavale and actor Ashley Benson have boarded the cast of the film "Lapham Rising". The film, to be directed by debutant filmmaker Charlie Kessler, is an official adaptation of Roger Rosenblatt's novel of the same name, reported Deadline. Cannavale, 49, and Benson, 29, join veteran actor Frank Langella in the project. The cast also includes Stockard Channing and Catherine Parker. The film centres on Harry March (Langella), a retired writer whose life starts to unravel when a multi-millionaire begins building a mansion across from his quiet island home in the Hamptons. Up until now, he has lived peacefully with his talking dog, Hector, a born-again Evangelical and unapologetic capitalist. To Harry, the gargantuan mansion represents the fetid and corrupt excess that has ruined modern civilisation. Filming is set to begin in next few months in Minnesota. 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?' cancelled after 20 years

Iconic game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" has been cancelled after a two-decade-long run, the last 17 of which were in syndication. The game show, which was a phenomenon in its initial network run on ABC and has aired in syndication since 2002, will end after its current season. "After a successful 17-year run, 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' will not return in national syndication for the 2019-20 season," a representative for the show said in a statement issued to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is produced by Valleycrest Productions and distributed by Disney ABC Home Entertainment and Television Distribution. "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" premiered in prime time in 1999 on ABC, and ran through 2002 with Regis Philbin serving as the host. Meredith Vieria hosted the show till 2013. Actors Kourtney Bell and Jeremy Holm are set to headline revenge thriller "Good Samaritan". The film, from Hood River Entertainment, marks Jeffrey Reddick's directorial debut. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bell plays a young woman among several witnesses that see a man fatally assaulted in a park and do nothing to intervene. Soon they all find themselves targeted by someone, or something, out for revenge. James Norton joins 'Heart of Darkness' adaptation

James Norton has joined the cast of animated adaptation of Joseph Conrad's classic "Heart of Darkness". Matthew Rhys, Michael Sheen and Andrew Scott are also on board the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Norton will voice the main character Marlow. Gerald Conn is directing the film via an animation technique using sand, in which he specialises in. Actors Robbie Amell and Lucy Hale are set to headline the big screen adaptation of Sally Thorne's best-selling rom-com, "The Hating Game". According to Deadline, Hale will play Lucy Hutton, a vintage dress-obsessed, eternally sunny young woman who absolutely cannot stand her work nemesis, the cold, hyper-efficient Josh Templeton (Amell). "The two engage in a battle of wills, constantly trying to one-up each other as the assistants to the two co-heads of the company where they work. But things get complicated when Lucy finds herself unexpectedly attracted to the last man on earth she ever thought she could like," the plot synopsis read. Peter Hutchings is directing the film from a script by Christina Mengert. Claude Dal Farra, Brice Dal Farra, and Brian Keady of BCDF Pictures are producing the project.

Bimal Roy Memorial and Film Society to host retrospective on Nutan

The Bimal Roy Memorial and Film Society (BRMFS) will be hosting a mini-retrospective on the works of late legendary actor Nutan in June. The event will be held to commemorate the actor's 83rd birth anniversary and the 60th anniversary of her film "Sujata", which was directed by Bimal Roy. It will be held between June 2 to 4, the BRMFS said in a statement. "This gifted actor struck a chord with masses, classes and critics alike. Her unconventional roles and acting in over 70 films she acted in still draw praise from viewers are stunned at her natural craft and prowess," Rinki Roy Bhattacharya, documentary filmmaker and Roy's daughter, said in a statement here. The organisers aims to screen Nutan's three films -- "Sujata" (1959), "Bandini" (1963) and "Tere Ghar Ke Saamne" (1963). The retrospective will be kick-started in the presence of Nutan's son, actor Mohnish Bahl, and her granddaughter, Pranutan Bahl, on June 2. It will conclude in the presence of Nutan's sister Tanuja on June 4.
