Hong Kong journalist, martial arts novelist Louis Cha dies
Louis Cha, a Hong Kong journalist and best-selling Chinese martial arts novelist, has died at age 94 after a long illness. The Hong Kong newspaper founded by Cha, Ming Pao Daily News, said he passed away Tuesday at a Hong Kong hospital. Cha's novels about ancient Chinese swordsmen have sold millions and are among the most widely read in the Chinese-speaking world. They inspired film adaptations, TV and radio dramas, comic books and videogames, and greatly influenced Hong Kong popular culture. They include "The Heaven Sword and the Dragon Saber," about a kindhearted hero who is indecisive but uses his kung fu skills to unify a divided gang and is elected its leader, and "The Eagle-Shooting Heroes," about a tragic hero who sacrifices his life in guarding the country against invading Mongolians. 'Green Book' to open at Cairo Film Festival
American film director Peter Farrelly's upcoming comedy-drama, 'Green Book' is all set to premiere at the revamped Cairo Film Festival, which will run from November 20 to 29.Starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen, 'Green Book' is about a tour of the Deep South in the 1960s by Jamaican-American classical pianist Don Shirley and New York bouncer Tony Lip who served as Shirley's driver and security. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018, where it won the People's Choice Award. The first schedule of Bollywood actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor upcoming film 'Chhichhore' concluded recently.Director Nitesh Tiwari, along with the entire crew, posed for a picture as the team wrapped up the first schedule of the film, the shooting of which began in Mumbai on September 30. Plagiarism row over film 'Sarkar' settled
The Madras High Court Tuesday settled a case of plagiarism between Sun Pictures and writer Varun Rajendran over the story of Vijay-starrer 'Sarkar', scheduled for release on Diwali, after the two reached a compromise. Rajendran had filed a civil suit alleging that 'Sarkar' director A R Murugadoss had copied his work "Sengol". When it came up for hearing before Justice M Sundar, a memo of compromise was filed by the Sun Pictures and the writer. Both the parties acknowledged that their scripts, 'Sengol' and 'Sarkar', revolved around the same theme of a reform of the electoral process to weed out bogus voting. Murugadoss said he had no objection to Rajendran producing any film based on his registered script 'Sengol' and its updated versions, based on his imagination, in any language. He also agreed to display a 30-second long message acknowledging Rajendran's writing skills. The writer too gave an undertaking not to object to the screening of 'Sarkar' now and in the future.
