The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking stay on the release of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's forthcoming movie 'Bharat'.This court didn't find any merit in the arguments of the petitioner and dismissed the plea.The Division Bench of Justices JR Midha and Chandershekar observed that the petitioner filed the PIL without watching the movie and that his opinion is based only on the three-minute trailer.The PIL was filed last week by petitioner Vikas Tyagi and had also sought a change of the title of 'Bharat'.Tyagi, in his petition, stated that the movie is "distorting the culture and political image of our great country 'Bharat'."He had contended that the title of the film is in violation of Section 3 of Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, according to which the word 'Bharat' cannot be used for the commercial purpose.He had also sought change in one of the dialogues of the film where the character has been compared to the country, contending that it ...
Delhi HC dismisses plea seeking stay on release of 'Bharat'
The Delhi High Court Monday dismissed a plea that sought a stay on the release of Salman Khan-starrer "Bharat" on the grounds that it is "inappropriate" to name a film after the official name of the country. The film is slated for release on June 5. A vacation bench of justices J R Midha and Chander Shekhar said it was of the view that the petition was filed to draw mileage from it and the plea was premature as the petitioner has not yet seen the movie. The court also pulled up petitioner Vikas Tyagi for circulating the petition in the media before it was listed. The plea had said that the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act prohibited the use of the name 'Bharat' for any trade, business, profession, or in a title of any patent and in any trademark. Khurrana, 2 others accused of cheating; called by Thane cops
Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana and two others from the Hindi film industry have been called for questioning by the Thane police in connection with a cheating complaint filed against them by a director, said an official Monday. A letter of memorandum was sent to Khurrana, director Amar Kaushik and producer Dinesh Vijan, both of Maddock Films, a leading production house, Sunday by the Kashimira police station after receiving the complaint, the official said. The complaint against the trio has been filed by 39- year-old film director Kamalkant Nanak Chandra, a resident of Mira Road, a suburb of Mumbai located in Thane district, he said. The episode dates back to the time when Chandra was working on the script of a film which was to be directed by him, the official said, quoting from the complaint. Besides a successful career in showbiz, Priyanka Chopra actively promotes social causes such as health, education and women's rights and the actor said she would love to take a plunge into politics in future. The "Quantico" actor also said she has political aspirations for husband, singer Nick Jonas and would back him for running for the office of US president. "I would love to run for prime minister of India. I would love Nick to run for president. "I don't like the things associated with politics... but I know that both of us really want to make a change. 'Jabariya Jodi' to release on August 2
"Jabariya Josi", starring Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra, is slated to hit the screens on August 2, the makers announced on Monday. The film is a comic take on the concept of 'groom kidnapping' prevalent in Bihar, popularly known as "pakadua vivah". It is helmed by debutant director Prashant Singh. Actor-singer Ruma Guha Thakurta, who featured in films such as "Jwar Bhata", "Ganga" and "36 Chowringhee Lane" while straddling an equally successful playback career, died in her sleep early Monday aged 84, family sources said. Ruma, the first wife of actor-singer Kishore Kumar, passed away at her Ballygunge Place residence in the city. She was suffering from age-related ailments. She is survived by two sons and a daughter. "She passed away in her sleep early this morning. Our family doctor confirmed it. The timing of her death could be between 6 and 6.15 am," said Ayan Guha Thakurta, her son from her second marriage.
