Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday said the state government has decided to develop a film city at Pinjore in Panchkula district to support artists and promote the film industry. The film city will be established over 100 acres of land. The chief minister said the land has already been identified and the process of appointing a consultant for the project is underway. The work of film city is expected to commence soon, he added. Saini said another film city will be developed in Gurugram, adding the land selection process for this phase is currently in progress. These initiatives will not only benefit professionals associated with the film industry but will also create new employment opportunities in the state, he said. The chief minister was addressing the closing ceremony of a two-day film festival held at Maharishi Dayanand University. Taxpayers will be granted relief on interest and penalty amounts payable under the GST Act for the financial years 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20 under an amnesty scheme introduced by the Haryana government, provided they deposit the principal tax amount by March 31, 2025, as per an official statement on Sunday. Providing details about this initiative, Geetanjali Mor, Joint Excise and Taxation Commissioner (Gurugram Range), said the Haryana government in October 2024 launched the Amnesty Scheme for taxpayers registered under the GST Act. Under this scheme, taxpayers can avail of relief from interest and penalty amounts by depositing the principal tax due under Section 73 of the GST Act, 2017 for 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20, on or before March 31, 2025, Mor said. To benefit from this scheme, taxpayers must deposit the principal tax amount before the deadline to secure relief on interest and penalties, she said. With a focus on tourism, rural development and green energy, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday presented the annual Budget of Rs 58,514 crore for 2025-26. While presenting his third annual Budget for FY26, Sukhu said the year 2025-26 is full of financial challenges as revenue deficit grant has been reduced and GST compensation has been stopped which will impact the state's economy. The Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) has been reduced from Rs 10,949 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 3,257 in 2025-26, while Himachal Pradesh incurred a loss of Rs 9,478 crore till 2023-24, despite Good and service Tax (GST) compensation given by the centre to the state, he said.
