Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will hold a meeting with health ministers of states and Union territories on Friday over rising COVID-19 cases in some parts of the world. In the wake of surge in COVID-19 cases in many countries, India has started 2 per cent random sampling of international travellers coming to the country and may consider making it mandatory for all if necessary, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Thursday. He was responding to queries of some Opposition MPs after his suo moto statement in Rajya Sabha on the latest COVID-19 situation and India's preparedness. "We are constantly monitoring the situation. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday said more than 1,500 private hospitals have been empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the last one year. The scheme is reviewed every month and out-of-pocket expenditure of patients under the scheme has come down, Mandaviya said, replying to a question in Lok Sabha. Under the scheme launched in 2018, the government provides health security cover to 10 crore families or 50 crore people of India. Today, 4.5 crore needy people have been empanelled under the scheme, the minister said. He said seven-eight lakh beneficiary cards are printed daily and the ministry was working to ensure that 50 crore cards are made available in the next four-six months. India saw a single day rise of 152 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases have increased to 3,846, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The total tally of COVID-19 cases stands at 4.46 crore (4,46,75,247). With no fatalities being reported for the third consecutive day, the death toll stands at 5,30,658, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprises 0.01 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.80 per cent, according to the health ministry website. An increase of one case has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
