India head coach Rahul Dravid will have to reapply if he wishes to continue in the job after his tenure ends with next month's T20 World Cup, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has said while making it clear that the new appointment will be for a three-year term. Dravid, who had a two-year contract originally, was given an extension along with his support staff after the conclusion of the 50-overs World Cup in November last year. "We will call for applications in the next few days. Rahul Dravid's tenure is coming to an end. He has to reapply if he has to continue. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years," Shah told select media during an interaction at the BCCI office here on Thursday. The BCCI secretary said there has been no precedent of having different coaches for different formats but ultimately the decision rests with the Cricket Advisory Committee. The CAC comprises Jatin Paranjape, Ashok Malhotra and Sulakshana Naik. "There is no precedent of different coaches for differ
India's first-ever 'hybrid pitch' was unveiled at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium in a grand ceremony here on Monday. The event was attended by IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal and cricket dignitaries including Paul Taylor, a former England cricketer and SIS's international cricket director. "The introduction of hybrid pitches is set to revolutionize cricket in India, following their success in iconic venues like Lord's and The Oval in England," said Dhumal, who hails from Himachal Pradesh. The hybrid pitch, which combines natural turf with synthetic fibres, promises enhanced durability and consistent playability, reducing the strain on ground staff and maintaining quality playing conditions. With only 5% synthetic fibres, the pitch ensures that the natural characteristics essential for cricket are preserved. Taylor expressed gratitude towards the HPCA for their collaboration on this pioneering project. "With the ICC's approval, we're excited to see the positive i
With India matches scheduled to take place in the morning during ICC T20 World Cup 2024, it is believed that Rohit would pick three or four spinners in the Playing 11 to strangle the opposition
Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar on Thursday described the omission of Rinku Singh from India's T20 World Cup squad as the "toughest" call, saying the in-from swashbuckler has "done nothing wrong" and it all came down to combinations. Rinku, Kolkata Knight Riders' big-hitting finisher from Aligarh, could not find a place in the 15-member squad as the think-tank preferred Chennai Super Kings' Shivam Dube over him. His exclusion became a major talking point as Rinku has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24 in T20Is for India. "It (not picking Rinku) is probably the toughest thing we have had to discuss. He has done nothing wrong, not even Shubman Gill for that matter. It is not his fault that he missed out. It's about combinations," Agarkar said during a press conference here. "A couple of wrist spinners were included to give Rohit (Sharma) more options. There are two keepers, we needed an extra bowler. It's just unfortunate. He's in the reserves, so that .

The likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav were automatic choices in India's T20 World Cup squad but the others made the cut with their exploits in the ongoing IPL. Nine of 15 players picked in the squad were also part of the team that went to Australia for the last edition of the tournament in 2022. Here is the lowdown on the selected India players' performance in the IPL so far: 1) Rohit Sharma: He has been among the standout batters for Mumbai Indians in what is turning out to be a forgettable season for the five-time champions. In 9 matches, he has scored 311 at an excellent strike-rate of 160.30 with a top score of 105 not out against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. 2) Hardik Pandya: A debatable selection as he is enduring a disastrous IPL. Appointed MI's captain under controversial circumstances, Hardik has scored 197 runs, which includes 10 sixes, in nine IPL matches so far. When it comes to bowling, he has taken four wickets at an economy
While India captain Rohit Sharma wants to play test cricket against Pakistan, he also cleared the air over his meeting with head coach Dravid and chief selector Agarkar ahead of ICC T20 World Cup 2024
MS Dhoni lifted the converted ICC World Cup 2011 at this very venue when he finished the final against Sri Lanka in style by hitting Nuwan Kulasekara for a six over long-on
Rishabh Pant has taken very little time to operate at his best after making a comeback from a horrific car crash and therefore, the X-factor player walks into India's playing eleven at the T20 World Cup, feels former England skipper Eoin Morgan. Pant, who is back in action after 14 months, has already smashed two fifties in five games and has a strike rate of 154.54. The other contenders for the wicket-keeper batter's slot are Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma but Pant has pushed himself at the top of the pecking order with his performance so far in the IPL. When asked why he would pick Pant over others, Morgan spoke with crystal clarity. " (I would pick him) because he is the player that he is. I don't see him being hampered in anyway coming back from his car crash. For me he is a very disruptive player. "As a leftie he can play a big role in the middle order and add a huge amount of pressure as opposed to generic right handers," said the ODI World Cup winning captain
Immensely impressed by Mayank Yadav's raw speed and accuracy, South Africa and Punjab Kings pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada sees the fast bowling sensation as a "potential pick" in India's squad for the T20 World Cup. The 21-year-old from Delhi has been pushing the speed barrier with every game and on Tuesday night, bowled a 156.7 kmph thunderbolt against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It was his second straight man of the match performance in his debut season, leading Lucknow Super Giants to a convincing win. Rabada's team Punjab Kings was at the receiving end of Mayank's barrage of short-pitched deliveries last week when the debutant struck thrice with his rattling pace. One of the best pacers in the game, the South African also spoke about Mayank's remarkable accuracy. "He has got something that you cannot buy and that is raw pace. That is what exactly he is exploiting and exploiting it extremely well," Rabada told PTI in an interview. "The lengths that he hits, his plan is clear and
Fast bowling sensation Mayank Yadav came up with his second consecutive match-winning spell on Tuesday and he is hoping that his stellar start to the IPL leads to an India cap. With back-to-back player of the match performances in his debut season, the 21-year-old has emerged as the find of season. However, IPL is only a means to an end for Mayank. "Feel really good, two Player of the Match awards in two matches. I am happier that we won both the matches. My goal is to play for the country. I feel this is just the start. I enjoyed Cameron Green's wicket the most, said Mayank after LSG's win over RCB here. His three wickets included Green, Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar. Mayank had missed the last season due to injury and he fully knows the importance to fitness. There are a lot of factors to bowl quick - diet, sleep, training. I am focusing a lot on my diet and recovery - ice bath, he said. LSG skipper K L Rahul could not be more pleased for a cricketer who has shown great ...
About 10 years after its last edition was played, "active conversations" are taking place between cricket boards of India, Australia and England to revive the Champions League, a club-based international T20 competition. The last edition of the CLT20 was held in India in 2014 with Chennai Super Kings winning the title after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final at Bengaluru, with the edition involving three teams from India, two each from Australia and South Africa and one team side from Pakistan, the West Indies and New Zealand. As many as six editions of the CLT20 were played between 2009-10 to 2014-15, with four of these being organised in India and two in South Africa. The tournament was won twice each by Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, while Australia's New South Wales and Sydney Sixes won it one time each. While the cricket calendar remains jam-packed, the biggest challenge would be to find a window for reviving such an event, said Cricket Victoria CEO Nick ...
India's tour of Australia will begin on November 22 with Perth Stadium hosting the first Test. Adelaide will host the second Test match, which is going to be a Day/Night Test, of the series
Jasprit Bumrah needs an 'off-season' since his bowling action with an extensive effort' could result in ace India pacer suffering further injuries, warned legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath here on Tuesday. Bumrah spent a lengthy period on the sidelines for undergoing a surgery for stress fracture on his back in March 2023, while being already out of action since September 2022. In between, he also missed the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia as well as the IPL 2023. The right-arm pacer, who returned to action a little earlier than anticipated to lead India in their three-match T20I tour of Ireland last August, hit the stride immediately and went on to claim 20 wickets in the 50-over World Cup. McGrath said owing to his action and workload, Bumrah needs time off from the game given the amount of effort that goes into his bowling. "The last two strides that he takes, he just powers into the crease. Thus, his momentum increases, and that's where he gets the pace, McGrath said dur
Pandya injured his ankle during India's fourth World Cup game against Bangladesh while bowling his first over of that match and didn't play any further part in India's campaign
Sarfaraz Khan said on Friday that his father, Naushad, urged him to play domestic matches as if he was playing for the country even when his selection to the Indian team was getting delayed despite scoring tall runs in the national circuit. Sarfaraz finally got the opportunity to play for India during the recently-concluded five-match Test series against England where he showcased his prowess by scoring three half-centuries. Despite an amazing First-Class record of scoring 3,912 runs at an average of 69.85 with 14 centuries, the Mumbai cricketer wasn't getting a break in the India team. Even the legendary Sunil Gavaskar backed his Test selection last year after seeing him score copious amount of runs in domestic cricket. "I would ask my father when would I get a chance to play for India and if there were people supporting us. He would tell me just one thing, 'think as if you're playing for India in your next domestic match and score runs there as well'. "So I only had one job, that
A 'hybrid model' to host next year's Champions Trophy in Pakistan remains an option as India's participation cannot be decided by the ICC if there is a government policy against it, a source in the governing body's all-powerful executive board told PTI on Friday. The ICC board meeting is currently underway in Dubai. The Champions Trophy, which will be held in February-March 2025, is not on the agenda but newly-elected PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has stated that he wants to speak with his BCCI counterpart Jay Shah as well as ICC bigwigs on the sidelines, seeking some kind of assurance. However, an ICC Board member, who is privy to the developments, feels that any decision by BCCI, will only be taken closer to the tournament and once again, the idea of using UAE as a potential venue cannot be entirely discarded. "Every member can raise concerns for discussion at Board meetings and then it would go to a vote. But if the government (of a member nation) expressly say that they can't play
