India emerges as AIIB's top market for funding infrastructure projects

Given the sheer size of infrastructure development taking place across the country, India has emerged as the biggest project funding market for the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), a top bank official said on Wednesday. Stating that financing of a lot more new infrastructure projects is under discussion for next year, AIIB South Asia Director General Rajat Misra said, Lending to India will continue to grow as the bank balance sheet will also grow. Misra was speaking to PTI on the sidelines of Singapore International Energy Week here. Formed in December 2015, the AIIB has to date funded sovereign Indian infrastructure projects to the tune of USD 10 billion. This works out to more than 20 per cent of AIIB's total infrastructure project funding. 39 central ministries, 36 states, UTs onboarded PM Gati Shakti platform

As many as 39 ministries of central government and all 36 states and Union Territories have been onboarded on PM GatiShakti platform, which was launched on October 13, 2021, an official statement said on Thursday. The PM GatiShakti initiative was launched to develop an integrated infrastructure to reduce logistics costs. "Since the launch of PM GatiShakti on 13 October, 2021, 39 ministries of Govt of India, and all 36 states/UTs have been onboarded on PM GatiShakti platform," it said. The commerce and industry ministry also said that the department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT) has conducted a workshop on October 18 on the development of Digital Learning Resources for Capacity Building on PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. PM inaugurates, lays foundation of projects worth 4,200 cr in Uttarakhand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation of multiple development projects in Uttarakhand worth nearly Rs 4,200 crore. The projects, numbering 23 in total, will give impetus to infrastructure, education, health, electricity, drinking water, sports, tourism, disaster mitigation and horticulture sectors in the hill state. The projects whose foundation stones were laid by the prime minister at an event in Pithoragarh included 21,398 poly-houses, cultivation of high density intensive apple orchards, five works of double-laning of roads and slope treatment of national highways and the construction of 32 bridges in the state. DPIIT, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya ink pact to advance national master plan

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya on Wednesday signed a pact for advancing the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. Under the MoU, the university will be the nodal agency across the country to design, develop and deliver courses and curriculum related to PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and National Logistics Policy at various centres in different states, an official statement said. It was signed by Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya Vice-Chancellor Manoj Choudhary and Joint Secretary, Logistics Division, DPIIT, E Srinivas, in the presence of Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Key infrastructure sector growth rises to 8% in July 2023: Govt data

Growth of eight key infrastructure sectors rose to 8 per cent in July 2023 compared to 4.8 per cent in the same month last year on expansion in production of coal, crude oil, and natural gas, according to the official data released on Thursday. Production of steel, cement and electricity also grew in July, the data showed. However, the core sector growth was lower in July compared to the previous month when it was 8.3 per cent, the Commerce and Industry Ministry data showed. The output growth of the eight sectors was also lower at 6.4 per cent in April-July 2023-24 against 11.5 per cent in the year-ago period.

Railways to prepare fresh proposal for Hubli-Ankola railway line in K'taka

The Karnataka High Court has disposed of a batch of petitions challenging the Hubli (Hubballi)-Ankola railway line project after the Railways submitted that a fresh proposal is being worked out, and work will start only after all necessary permissions are obtained. The public interest litigations (PILs) by Giridhar Kulkarni and others had challenged the project on grounds that it would fragment the tiger habitat in the region. The Deputy Chief Engineer, Construction-1, South Western Railways, Hubballi, filed an affidavit before the court stating that as per directions of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL), a mitigation plan will be worked out in consultation with the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, and a fresh proposal will be submitted. The affidavit stated that the work on the project shall commence only after getting all the necessary clearances and approvals as required under law.
