Shardul Thakur heaps praise on Pant for batting despite injury in 4th Test

India all-rounder Shardul Thakur on Thursday lauded Rishabh Pan't "unmatched" courage and pain threshold after the latter came out to bat on day two of the fourth Test against England with a broken foot. Speaking to reporters, Shardul confirmed that Pant indeed suffered a fracture while batting on day one. "I think it was always our plan (to try and bring Pant to the middle). There were quite a few efforts from the medical team. So, yes, kudos to them," said Shardul referring to Pant's fifty that helped India post 358 in their first innings. "They could get Rishabh back onto the field. He could bat there for a while. And whatever he did, it's of course vital runs for the team he scored. "And yes, he was in a lot of pain. And we have seen him doing a lot of amazing things. And this was just another amazing thing that he did for the team today," added Shardul. Shardul and the rest of his teammates were excited to see how Pant approached his innings after resuming at an overnight 37

Pant's grit with broken foot will be remembered for 50 Years: Manjrekar

Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant coming out to bat with a fractured foot is a testimony to his commitment for his team and an act of bravery that will be remembered for years to come, just like Anil Kumble dismissing Brian Lara with a broken jaw back in 2002. Pant retired hurt on the opening day of the fourth Test against England after trying to reverse sweep Chris Woakes. He was well set on 37 then. Scans revealed that he had fractured his right foot. On the second day, he was back at the crease and playing through excruciating pain, scored a half-century and also had a hand in two partnerships which cumulatively yielded 35 runs. "When you do things like this gestures like Anil Kumble bowling with his jaw strapped, those are moments in history you remember 50 years from now. It shows how keen he is to turn up for India," Manjrekar told Jio HotStar. "There's something about Test cricket, especially when it's being played in England. Look at the amount of attention you get as a ...

Farokh Engineer, Clive Lloyd honoured with stand at Old Trafford ground

Former India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer and legendary West Indies captain Clive Lloyd were on Wednesday honoured by the Lancashire County Cricket Club with stands named after them at the Old Trafford Stadium here, on the opening day of the fourth Test between India and England. Engineer, who represented Lancashire from 1968 to 1976, played 175 matches, amassing 5,942 runs, 429 catches, and 35 stumpings. His arrival marked a turning point for the club, helping them win the Gillette Cup four times between 1970 and 1975 after a 15-year title drought. Despite his deep ties to Indian cricket, including the memorable outings he had at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium, Engineer surprisingly does not have a stand named after him there. Lloyd, a two-time World Cup-winning captain, joined Lancashire in the early 1970s as an overseas player. Lloyd's two-decade-long association with the club was transformational as he played a crucial role in reshaping Lancashire's cricketing fortunes. The gestur

'Makes up for no recognition at home': Engineer on stand named after him

Farokh Engineer was on Wednesday bestowed with a rare honour of having a stand named after an Indian cricketer in an overseas ground the storied Old Trafford in Manchester. The B Stand, located in between the Player and Media Centre and the extension of the Hilton hotel at Old Trafford, was formally named as the Sir Clive Lloyd and Farokh Engineer Stand before the toss of the fourth Test. Both Engineer and legendary West Indies captain Lloyd were in attendance as the stand was unveiled in recognition of their immense contribution to the Lancashire Cricket Club. It is a proud moment not only for me but for India as well. Both Clive and I were talking about it in the morning. We never thought something like this would be done in our honour. God is Great. This makes up for not receiving recognition in my own country, Engineer told PTI. Engineer, 87, played the majority of his cricket in Bombay, particularly at the Brabourne Stadium. It is a shame that my achievements are not recogni

Lord's aggression not typical Gill, but captain's role demands it: Ponting

Batting legend Ricky Ponting said India skipper Shubman Gill's aggressive posturing during the Lord's Test against England was "a little out of character" but at the same time viewed it as a "captain standing up for his team". The closely-fought game saw plenty of drama on the field, including an animated flare-up between Gill and the England openers towards the end of the third day of the Test. India had managed to equal England's first innings total of 387, and wanted to squeeze in two overs in the remaining six minutes of play. However, that wasn't possible as the English openers took their time to get ready, and Gill exchanged words with Zak Crawley and then Ben Duckett. Former Australia captain Ponting understood why Gill's aggressive action at Lord's was met with surprise. "That was a little out of character from what I've known from Shubman in the past. I am sure everyone that was there watching it and I know you would know him quite well, that's not what he's generally like
