India decides to allow export of rice to Singapore for special relationship

India on Tuesday said it has decided to allow export of rice to Singapore in view of the special relationship between the two countries. Last month, India announced a ban on export of all non-basmati white rice that resulted in sharp increase in global rice prices. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said formal orders allowing export of rice to Singapore will be issued shortly. "India and Singapore enjoy a very close strategic partnership, characterised by shared interests, close economic ties and strong people to people connect," he said. "In view of this special relationship, India has decided to allow export of rice to meet the food security requirements of Singapore," Bagchi said. The MEA spokesperson said this while responding to media queries on export of rice to Singapore. "Formal orders in this regard will be issued shortly," he said.

India, New Zealand signs MoU to boost cooperation in civil aviation

India and New Zealand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in civil aviation, which includes scheduling of new routes, codeshare services, traffic rights and capacity entitlement, an official statement said on Tuesday. According to the MoU, the designated airline(s) of New Zealand may operate any number of services with any type of aircraft, with third and fourth freedom traffic rights to/from six points in India, namely New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, it stated. India and New Zealand had signed the Air Services Agreement at Auckland on May 1, 2016. Governments of the two countries have reviewed the existing arrangements relating to air service between the two countries, it said and added that the initial pact is expected to further boost the bilateral ties in civil aviation between the two countries. India, New Zealand commit to further strengthen cooperation in agriculture

India and New Zealand have committed to work together to further strengthen the cooperation in the agriculture sector and collaboration between the two countries, according to an official release. A meeting was held here between Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, and New Zealand minister for trade & export growth and agriculture Damien O'Connor. Sri Lanka to import 92 mn eggs from India to stabilise local market prices

Sri Lanka will import 92.1 million eggs from India to counter the fluctuations in its prices and make them affordable to the consumers, the Cabinet spokesman said on Tuesday. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting held here on Monday, Cabinet spokesman and mass media minister Bandula Gunawardena said. The State Trading Corporation had requested the government to allow the import of eggs from India amid concerns over shortages and market fluctuations. Gunawardena said the move is a strategic measure to stabilise domestic egg prices and maintain affordability for Sri Lankan consumers. India and New Zealand are discussing the possibility of introducing the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in the island country with a view to promoting ease of doing business, trade and tourism between the countries, the commerce ministry said on Tuesday. The two countries are also looking at ways to allow the import of wooden logs from New Zealand. These issues were discussed during a bilateral meeting between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and New Zealand's Minister for Trade and Export Growth Damien O'Connor on Monday here.
