4 Cong MPs suspended from LS for rest of session for disrupting proceedings

Four Congress MPs were suspended from Lok Sabha for the rest of the session for displaying placards and disrupting proceedings despite a warning by Speaker Om Birla. Amid continuous disruptions, the Chair named Congress MPs Manickam Tagore, TN Prathapan, Jothimani and Ramya Haridas. Later, Parliamentary Affair Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a resolution to suspend the four for the rest of the session. The House then passed the resolution by a voice vote and Rajendra Agarwal who was chairing the proceedings announced their suspension. He later adjourned the proceedings for the rest of the day.

Cong protests outside Goa restaurant owned by Smriti Irani's daughter

Youth Congress workers on Sunday protested outside a Goa restaurant which the Congress claims is owned by Union minister Smriti Irani's daughter. The Congress on Saturday demanded Irani's sacking, alleging her daughter was running an illegal bar in Goa, but the minister had claimed the "malicious" charge was made at the Gandhi family's behest due to her vocal stand in the National Herald case and vowed to fight back. On Sunday, Goa Youth Congress president Varad Mardolkar and state unit spokesman Amarnath Panjikar led the protest outside the Sully Souls Goa restaurant in Assagao village and demanded that the establishment be shut down. Goa Congress chief Amit Patkar had alleged that the renewal for the restaurant's bar licence has been applied in the name of a dead person. He had claimed that the Excise Commissioner, responding to a complaint against the fraud, issued a show cause notice to the restaurant returnable on July 29. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday said the state will be freed of gangsters and drug peddlers and accused the previous Akali and the Congress governments of patronising them. Mann complimented the Punjab Police for an operation against two gangsters in Amritsar. Gangsters Jagroop Singh Roopa and Manpreet Singh alias Mannu Kusa, allegedly involved in the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, were gunned down in a nearly five-hour-long encounter with the Punjab Police at an Amritsar village on Wednesday.
