The increase in the leopards' population in two of Jaipur's forests, one of them Jhalana leopard reserve, has given rise to frequent man-animal encounters in the urban areas. The leopard count which stood at 12 in 2012 has increased to 40 in 2022, clocking an over 200 per cent growth in a decade. While the increase in population is good news for wildlife lovers, it has also raised concerns for people living nearby as the shy animal often end up entering the city. Experts insist that beefing up the prey base in the forests will help big cats keep to their natural habitats, as they often end up straying far too far away in their search of food or due to shortage of space. According to the forest department officials, Jhalana reserve has witnessed the highest growth in the population of leopards over the years because of the conservation works. More than 400 jewellery retailers are expected to showcase their products at the annual Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) to be held here from December 23-26, organisers said. The annual event will be based on 'Emerald...Timeless Elegance' theme. The show will have around 900 booths this year and it will see participation of eminent jewellers of the country. Over 400 top retailers have already confirmed their participation in the show, JJS Chairperson Vimal Chand Surana said. It is a B2B (business-to-business) and B2C (business-to-customer) show which will be held at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC) in Sitapura. JJS Secretary Rajiv Jain said that All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) board of directors have been invited for the event. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and his deputy Mukesh Agnihotri arrived here from Delhi on Thursday night to join the Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra. The two were accompanied by Congress Himachal Pradesh in-charge Rajeev Shukla. Sukhu and the others were received at the airport by state Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Mahesh Joshi, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, MLAs Rafiq Khan and Amin Kagzi and other party leaders and workers. The foot march, which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, will conclude in Kashmir after covering a distance of 3,570 km.
Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi arrived in Jaipur on Thursday morning as the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra is crossing through Rajasthan, a party spokesperson said. She is scheduled to fly to Bundi in a helicopter where her son and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to take a halt later in the day after marching 24 kilometers as part of the yatra, he said. The march is set to take a break on December 9, which is also Sonia Gandhi's birthday. The yatra will resume from December 10. Rahul Gandhi began the Rajasthan leg of his Bharat Jodo Yatra from Jhalawar district on Monday. Rajasthan is the only Congress-ruled state the yatra has entered and will cover about 500 km through Jhalawar, Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, Dausa and Alwar districts over 17 days before entering Haryana on December 21.

Jaipur International Airport Limited has received the Aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) following which the airport has embarked on an expansion drive, a company official said. Earlier, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) was the licence holder. Now the private player, which is operating the Jaipur airport since October 2021, has become the new licence holder. The licence is given to an airport operator for ensuring complete management of the airport in accordance with the concession agreement. "We have received the Aerodrome license for Jaipur International Airport Limited (JIAL). Now the complete management of the airport lies with us in accordance with the concession agreement. Major customer-centric changes have been made at the airport and now we are looking for expansion," said a senior official of JIAL.
