Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will return to power after the 2024 general elections and hoped that by 2026, terrorism will be completely eliminated from Jammu and Kashmir. Replying to a debate in the Lok Sabha on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, Shah said the government's focus is on ending the ecosystem which has been aiding and abetting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir for years. He said with the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, separatism has ended in the Union Territory and terrorism has reduced significantly. "I believe the Modi government will return to power in 2024 and I hope there will be no terror incident in Jammu and Kashmir in 2026," he said. Sikh delegation in J&K meets President Murmu, submits list of demands

A delegation of the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir met President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum listing their various demands. The All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) delegation led by Harmilan Kour and Manmeet Kour met the President at the Raj Bhavan here. The delegation said the community has faced persistent challenges and firmly believes that it is time for the Government of India to take decisive actions to address its pressing issues, according to the APSCC. Melting J&K glaciers threaten water supply, biodiversity, warns expert

Melting of glaciers in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh is going to impact the water availability in the Himalayan region with consequent adverse effect on the dependent livelihoods, a leading scientist has warned. Studies show that glaciers in the region have dwindled by 25 per cent in the last six decades, while 48 per cent of them could vanish by the century's end even with moderate climate change. Earth scientist and glaciology expert, Shakeel Ahmad Romshoo, voiced concerns, highlighting the significance of snow and glaciers for J&K and Ladakh. "We have about 18,000 glaciers, some of these glaciers are big like the Siachen glacier which in one dimension has a length of about 65 kms. Separatist leader Yasin Malik on Wednesday virtually appeared before the Delhi High Court from jail in connection with the National Investigation Agency's plea seeking death penalty for him in a terror funding case. Poonch terror attack: Over 40 detained for questioning, search ops continue

More than 40 persons have been detained for questioning as part of a massive operation currently underway to track down the terrorists involved in the Poonch terror attack, officials said on Monday. Additional troops have been inducted to further intensify the cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in Bhata Dhurian-Tota Gali and neighbouring areas.
