Kerala on Tuesday reported 23,676 fresh COVID cases pushing the total infection count to 34.49 lakh, with the number of people succumbing to the virus touching 17,103 after 148 additional deaths. On Monday, the state had reported 13,984 cases after recording more than 20,000 cases for six consecutive days. As many as 15,626 people have been cured of the infection since Monday, taking the total recoveries to 32,58,310 and the number of active cases in the state to 1,73,221, a state government release said. In the last 24 hours, 1,99,456 samples were tested and the TPR was found to be 11.87 per cent. So far, 2.77 crore samples have been tested, it said. Some of the worst affected districts in the state are Malappuram with 4276 infections, Thrissur 2908, Ernakulam 2702, Kozhikode 2416, Palakkad 2223, Kollam 1836, Alappuzha 1261, Kottayam 1241, Kannur 1180 and Trivandrum 1133. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday announced further tightening of restrictions in the State with an increase in the Covid Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the last few days. The average test positivity rate for the last three days is 12.1 per cent.The TPR is above 10 per cent in 11 districts and Malappuram district has the highest of 17 per cent. "In the context of the Covid spread, Central and State Government Offices, Public Offices, Public Sector Undertakings, Companies, Commissions, and Corporation offices in Category A and B local bodies can function with upto 50 per cent staff and upto 25 per cent in Category C areas," Vijayan said. Only essential services will operate in Category D areas where the TPR rate is above 15 per cent. Three more persons tested positive for Zika virus in Kerala on Thursday, taking the total reported cases to 44. The three cases were reported from Thiruvanathapuram-- a 27-year-old resident near the Medical college here, 38-year-old Petta resident and a three-year-old chid from Anayara were found infected with the virus, state Health Minister Veena George said. "The infection was confirmed in the tests conducted at the medical virology lab here.The total affected in the state has gone up to 44.Currently six persons are under treatment," the minister said in a release.
