Ninety students belonging to the first batch of the "Wings" project, which aims to help tribal youth in Kerala pursue a career in flying, have secured placement in various international airports, the state government said on Tuesday. According to the Scheduled Tribes Development Department, 90 of the 100 students who opted for the six-month "Airline and Airport Management" course are placed in different airports in the country. It also said that 11 students who took the one-year airline customer service course also received placement. "It is the responsibility of the Kerala government to encourage tribal youth to dream big and to assist them in achieving those aspirations," K Radhakrishnan, Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes, told PTI. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday urged the Central government to make the States take up what he called as productive spending to galvanise the economy of the country. Speaking at the 30th southern zonal council meeting here, Vijayan said there was a need for discussion on the proposed laws based on the concurrent list of the 7th Schedule of the Constitution before they were enacted. "There can be contestations, but through discussions and debates, consensus can emerge narrowing down the areas of differences. This is the essence of a healthy federal democracy," Vijayan said. He recalled the co-operative spirit with which the States faced the situation in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Differences stood apart and we rose to the need of the hour to protect and provide the people relief. Though the immediate threat has receded, the fiscal empowerment of the Union and the States are of equal importance to meet the long impact of the pandemic on the economy.

Under 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana', two lakh houses have been approved and more than 1.30 lakh have been completed in Kerala, he noted. Modi further said the Centre has spent around Rs 1 lakh crore on various projects in the southern state. "The central government is working to open at least one medical college in every district, and it will hugely benefit the youth of Kerala. To develop modern infrastructure, the BJP government is spending around Rs 1 lakh crore on multiple projects in Kerala," he said. The Centre is attempting to obstruct development activities in Kerala and push it into financial ruin by their fiscal policies, which limit the borrowing capacity of the state and through the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into the financial dealings of KIIFB, the LDF government claimed in the assembly on Wednesday. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that while borrowings by government-run entities like Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) were being included in the debt of the state to limit the loans that it can avail from the open market, the Centre at the same time was not disclosing all the loans availed by PSUs like NHAI, Air India Holdings and Indian Railways Finance Corporation. This "discriminatory" stand of the Centre was evident from a recent report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) which said that the central government has not fully disclosed the huge loans availed by the NHAI, Air India Holdings Ltd and the Indian Railways Finance
