Delhi police on Friday arrested one person for posing as a senior IPS officer from Tamil Nadu.The 53-year-old, identified as Rajiv Gupta, was arrested from Sita Ram Bazar area here after Hauz Qazi police station received information about a man moving about suspiciously in the area.Gupta was found to be posing as an Inspector General of Police (IG) of Tamil Nadu cadre.On conducting a search police found he was carrying a fake identity card which mentioned him to be an officer from the 1989 IPS batch and currently posted as IGP.A case under section 170 IPC has been registered and an investigation is underway.
Delhi Police on Friday arrested a notorious cheat from East Delhi's Laxmi Nagar for allegedly posing as a government employee and cheating people.Singh, 45, used to pretend to be an employee at the SDM office in Laxmi Nagar and cheat people by taking money from them on the pretext of selling them the old vehicles lying in the SDM office, police said.Police made the arrest acting on a complaint filed by one Jaspal Singh, who claimed that the accused Satnam Singh had cheated him of Rs. 1.60 lakhs on the pretext of selling old vehicles lying in the sub-divisional magistrate office of Laxmi Nagar.While investigating the matter, a police team under the leadership of SHO Laxmi Nagar and overall supervision of ACP Preet Vihar examined CCTV footage and established the identity of the accused Satnam Singh.On receiving the specific information Satnam was apprehended today, police said adding further investigation is being carried out.

Six people were convicted under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) by a court here on Friday, the Delhi Police said, claiming it was the first major conviction under the law in the city. The quantum of punishment was pronounced by the court of Rakesh Syal, special judge MCOCA to Vipin Sharma, Sachin Sharma, Honey Sharma, Harshad Alam, Aman Alam, and Bhupender Singh under the Section 3 of the act for cheating job seekers, they said. Vipin Sharma was the kingpin of the gang, which was involved in multiple cases of cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust, attempt to culpable homicide, wrongful confinement among others in the national capital, registered against them at various police stations in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab. Three employees at a municipality-run cowshed were suspended after allegations that some parts of a cow carcass were found there, an official said Friday. A senior official, however, said no cow was found missing from the "gaushala". District Magistrate Amrit Tripathi said employees Rashid, Noor Ahmed and Raja Ram were placed under suspension following allegations of cow slaughter. The city magistrate had been asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident, the DM said. Orders have also been issued to initiate action against the in-charge of the cowshed as well as the local police station. Nagar Ayukt' Vidya Shankar Singh, who heads the municipality, said all 220 cows were found in the "gaushala". Assam's Directorate of Sainik Welfare (DSW) wrote to the Kendriya Sainik Board on Friday, saying the NRC tribunal that declared a former army officer a "foreigner" did not take into account" his service documents and had it done that, there would have been no confusion on his nationality. DSW Director Brig (retd) Joshi Narain Dutt Ganesh Dutt informed the Board in Delhi that former army officer Mohammad Sanaullah was contacted by DSW at Guwahati (North) police station to ascertain the details of the case against him. Sanaullah shared facts that led to his being graded a foreigner by the tribunal. Dutt said Sanaullah cited multiple reasons that may have mistakenly led the tribunal to declare him a foreigner and lodge him in a detention centre at Goalpara. A local Samajwadi Party leader was shot dead by six masked men in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district on Friday, police said. Lalji Yadav, 51, was travelling on his SUV when the motorcycle-borne men came from behind and opened fire. The incident happened on the Shahganj-Jaunpur road near Khanpur, an officer said. According to eyewitnesses, the shooters fled the scene after making sure that Yadav had died, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anil Kumar Pandey said. The officer said Yadav, who was also a contractor, had murder and other criminal cases against him. A man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in outer Delhi's Bawana on Friday, police said. Anil, a native of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pardesh and in his 40's, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said. The incident took place at around 6.45 pm when the deceased, a welder, was working in a street, a senior police officer said, adding that it appears to be a case of personal enmity. A special CBI court has sentenced an MES official to four years rigorous imprisonment for amassing disproportionate assets worth Rs 99 lakh, officials said Friday. Vijay Sharma has also been slapped with a fine of over Rs 1 crore, they said. Sharma, then a junior engineer in the Military Engineer Services (MES), was booked by the CBI in 2012 for amassing wealth which was 188.63 per cent over his known sources of income, the officials said here. The wealth was accumulated in his name and in the name of his family members and others from 1999 to 2012, they said. "The special judge for CBI cases, Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), has sentenced Vijay Kumar Sharma, then a junior engineer (QS&C) working in the office of Garrison Engineer, Military Engineer Services (MES), Bairagarh in Bhopal to undergo 4 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs one crore one thousand (Rs. 1,00,01,000/-) in a disproportionate assets case," a CBI spokesperson said.
Two men were arrested for allegedly snatching a gold chain from a 36-year-old woman who was returning after work in northeast Delhi's Jafarabad, police said Friday. The accused, identified as Mohsin (24), a resident of Moujpur and Nadeem (26), a resident of Jafrabad, were arrested on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday, they said. A 14-year-old girl is battling for life after being allegedly set on fire in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district by a man who was upset over a past relationship between his sister and the victim's brother, police said. The attack created tension between the Hindu and Muslim communities at a village in Daurala area, 15 km north of Meerut city, as the victim and the accused belong to two different communities, the police said. The man poured a bottle of kerosene over the girl while she was sleeping on the rooftop of her house with her parents on Wednesday night.
