Mumbai Police crime branch will now probe the alleged suicide committed by doctor Payal Tadvi after some of her senior colleagues passed casteist slurs at her at a state-run hospital here, an official said Thursday. Considering the seriousness and importance of the case, the investigation has been transferred to the crime branch, Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Singte said. Tadvi's lawyer Nitin Satpute said the decision came after they demanded that the case be transferred to the CBI or the crime branch as they felt it was not properly investigated by the Agripada police here. "Wesuspect it to be a case of murder, but the police have not conducted the investigation properly, hence we wanted the case to be transferred to some other probing agency," Satpute said. A suspected drug peddler was arrested on Thursday after cannabis was recovered from him in Jammu district, police said. During patrolling, Rajinder Singh was apprehended with 45.40 grams of cannabis in Jourian town, the police said. The body of a 55-year-old woman was found at a vacant plot in Dwarka's Bharat Vihar on Thursday morning, police said. Police said prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. The woman might have jumped from the rooftop of her-four storey building on the vacant plot, they said. However, police said that they have not found any suicide note and investigations are in initial stage. The deceased has been identified as Sunita, a resident of Bharat Vihar. The incident was reported at Dwarka North police station at 7.05 AM. When the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) reached at the spot, the woman was found lying at the vacant plot. She was shifted to Rockland Hospital where she was declared brought dead, a senior police officer said. A middle-aged man, who was detained by the Singampalli police, for allegedly plucking mangoes from a farm, was found dead under suspicious conditions.This incident took place in Singampalli village situated in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.The deceased has been identified as Bakki Srinu of Gollala Mamidada village.According to the police, after dropping his wife and children at his inlaws' place, Srinu visited a mango garden. Without taking prior permission from the farm owners he plucked mangoes and ate. Following this, the owners got furious and took him to Local Panchayat Raj office where he was detained.A few hours later, police intervened in the matter and found Srinu dead inside the premises of the office.The investigation into the matter is underway. Rajasthan's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a panchayat secretary and a patwari of the revenue department in Bundi district for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 25,000, officials said Thursday. The two accused, held Wednesday, were posted with the revenue department in Bundi and had demanded the bribe for mutation of agricultural land in Bundi's Namana area, the officials said. Bundi (City) patwari Dilip Goyal and panchayat secretary Sanjeev Goyal, both are brothers and residents of Bayana city in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, DSP, ACB, Bundi Tarunkant Somani said. Four persons have been arrested by Thane police in Maharashtra for allegedly robbing passengers on the pretext of getting them berths in trains, police said on Thursday. The accused generally targeted people travelling late night in trains going to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. They would get friendly with such passengers and offer to secure berths for them in trains starting from the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in neighbouring Mumbai, a release from the Kalyan railway police here said. Uttar Pradesh STF arrested two interstate smugglers last night and seized 300 cartons of illegal liquor from their possession.The two accused - Ram Kumar Jogi and Naushad were arrested from Lucknow National Highway.This comes after several deaths were reported in the state due to spurious liquor.According to police, around 300 cartons of liquor worth Rs 30 lakhs, and Rs. 1780 in cash were recovered from the accused.On being interrogated, the accused revealed that they were involved in large scale smuggling of liquor from Haryana and Punjab. Ola Bini was arrested while trying to leave Ecuador for Japan on April 11 -- the day Quito withdrew its offer of asylum to Assange, who had taken refuge in its London embassy since 2012. The Ecuadorian government has accused Bini, 36, of plotting to attack computer systems in the country. Bini had refused to cooperate with investigators and the prosecution was therefore unable to identify the possible victims or damage caused by the alleged hacking, Judge Yadira Proano said in denying his bail application.
