Sweden to reopen 2010 case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange
Sweden's Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Eva-Marie Persson has decided to reopen a 2010 case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.According to the official document, the prosecutor will request a European Arrest Warrant for Assange along with a detention order to Uppsala District Court as the alleged crime took place in Enkoping municipality.Assange is currently serving 50 weeks imprisonment sentence in UK's Belmarsh prison and the US is seeking his extradition on charges of conspiracy to hack into a classified government computer.
ED seeks cancellation of bail to Deepak Talwar's 'close aide'
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday approached Delhi's Rouse Avenue court seeking cancellation of bail granted to Yasmin Kapoor, allegedly a close aide of corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar, in a money laundering case.The special CBI court will most likely hear the plea on Tuesday.The application stated that Yasmin Kapoor is beneficial owner of the properties and entities acquired allegedly through proceeds of crime and which were under investigation related to negotiation favouring foreign private airlines and causing loss to the Air India.Yasmin Kapoor was recently granted anticipatory bail by the court.An application moved by ED's public prosecutor Nitesh Rana in the bail cancellation application stated that the investigation is still ongoing and is at a crucial stage.This comes days after Aditya Talwar, son of Deepak Talwar, moved a special CBI court, seeking cancellation of the non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against him in a money laundering case.CBI judge Anuradha Shukla

Military prosecutors in the case of a Navy SEAL charged with killing an Islamic State prisoner in Iraq in 2017 installed tracking software in emails sent to defense lawyers and a reporter in an apparent attempt to discover who was leaking information to the media, according to lawyers who told The Associated Press that they received the corrupted messages. The defense attorneys said the intrusion may have violated constitutional protections against illegal searches, guarantees to the right to a lawyer and freedom of the press. Man held with gold paste in rectum at Pune airport
A passenger was held at the Pune Lohegaon International Airport early Monday morning for allegedly trying to smuggle gold by hiding it in his rectum, said Custom Officials. He said Abdur Rahim Khateeb, who had flown in from Dubai, was stopped in the basis of suspicion and then checked, an official said. "He had concealed gold paste weighing 664.04 grams in his rectum. The gold content in the paste was assessed at 533 grams valued at Rs 16,71,983," said the official.

Man commits suicide in police custody in Ajmer
A man, detained in a case of theft, allegedly committed suicide in a police station in Rajasthan's Ajmer disctrict on Monday, police said. The incident occurred in Pisangan Police Station when Mangilal, aged around 40 years, hanged himself in the bathroom, Superintendent of Police (SP), Ajmer, K Rastradeep said. He said Mangilal was detained in a case of theft and brought to the police station on Monday morning. Taking action in the matter, SHO of Pisangan Police Station Laxman Singh and four others were suspended while and some other policemen were shunted to police lines, the SP said. A judicial inquiry will be conducted and postmortem of the body will be done later, the officer added.
EC orders re-polling at Faridabad booth after BJP polling agent caught trying to influence voters
A BJP polling agent was arrested for allegedly trying to influence voters at a polling booth in Haryana's Palwal after a video of the purported act went viral, prompting the Election Commission to order re-polling. In a statement on Monday, the poll panel said, "On enquiry by the Observer, the complaint was found to be true. Commission has therefore ordered a fresh poll at this polling station on May 19." The incident took place at Asawati village in the Faridabad parliamentary constituency where polling was held on May 12. The EC also placed the presiding officer concerned under suspension for dereliction of duty and initiated criminal action against him. The re-polling was ordered for violation of secrecy of voting. A 27-year-old accused in a murder case was arrested as he stepped out of a polling booth in south Delhi after casting his vote, police said Monday. Badal (27) and his accomplices, Satender (26) and Asfak Ahmed (24), were arrested Sunday for their alleged involvement in the killing of a rival gang member outside the Saket court last week. Acting on a tip-off, police personnel, who were on the trail of Badal, laid a trap outside the Government Boys Senior Secondary School Number 1 in Khanpur village of South Delhi and arrested him. ICICI-Videocon loan case: Chanda Kochhar, her husband appear before ED; grilled for 8 hours
Former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar were questioned Monday for over eight hours by the Enforcement Directorate after they appeared before it in connection with an alleged bank loan fraud and money laundering case registered against them. The couple arrived at the Enforcement Directorate's headquarters in Khan Market here shortly before their scheduled appearance time of 11 am, official sources said. They were allowed to leave just before 8 pm, they said. While it was not immediately known as to what was the ED's line of questioning, sources said that the two were required to assist the investigating officer (IO) of the case in taking the probe forward. Woman thrashed publicly by employer, aides over salary
A woman, working at a salon in Greater Noida, was thrashed in public by at least three men, including her employer, over the salary issue. Police said they have arrested the main accused in the case. A video of the incident purportedly showing the men beating the woman with sticks and manhandling her publicly also surfaced on social media. Some passers-by were seen filming the attack but no one came to the rescue of the woman. In a complaint at the Knowledge Park police station, the woman identified herself as a make up artist at the salon owned by the accused, officials said. "I have been working at the salon for some time now for Rs 17,000 a month as a make up artist. Rajasthan cop held for accepting bribe
A Rajasthan Police constable was arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 7,000 in Barmer district of the state, an ACB officer said on Monday. Dharmpal Singh, posted with Nagana Police Station, was demanding money from a taxi driver Ramlal in return for settling an alleged case against him, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officer said. "A passenger had forgotten his mobile phone in Ramlal's taxi. Upon finding it, the driver had returned the device but the accused constable threatened to lodge a case against him," the officer added. The ACB verified the complaint and laid a trap. The accused constable was arrested while accepting the money and booked under the prevention of corruption act.

A BJP polling agent has been arrested for allegedly trying to influence voters at a polling booth in Haryana's Palwal after a video of the purported act went viral, officials said on Monday. NHRC notice to UP govt, DGP over 'gang rape' of domestic help
The NHRC Monday sent a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and the state's police chief over the reported gang rape of a widowed domestic help following which she set herself on fire. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said if the content of a news report is true, the incident amounts to gross violation of human rights of the woman. "The NHRC has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that a widow in her late 20s was allegedly sold by her father and aunt for Rs 10,000, gang raped by her keeper and his friends, and then turned away by police when she approached them for help," the rights panel said in a statement. The traumatised woman set herself on fire last month and is battling for life with 80 per cent burns at a private hospital in Delhi, as per news reports carried on Monday. A 26 year-old man has been arrested for allegedly supplying illegal fire arms to gangsters in Delhi and Haryana, police said Monday. The accused, identified as Sumit Kharab, a resident of Mundhela Khurd village near Jaffarpur area here, was nabbed on Sunday, the day Delhi went to polls, they said. Following a tip-off that an illegal arms supplier would come near a nursery plantation opposite a mall in Dwarka with a huge cache of illegal arms, the arrest was made, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said. Four sophisticated pistols and a country-made gun with two cartridges were seized from the accused, he said. Demonetisation: ED attaches over Rs 2 crore assets in Axis Bank PMLA case
The ED Monday said it has attached assets worth over Rs 2 crore in connection with a money laundering case registered against former officials of an Axis Bank branch here and others, post the 2016 demonetisation exercise. In a statement, the agency said it has issued a "provisional attachment order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), attaching movable and immovable properties worth Rs 2,95,92,351 of Puneet Jain, Hemraj Singh, Vinod Deshmukh, Rajeev Singh Kushwaha, Mehfooz Khan, Pravesh Kumar Gandhi and others in the Axis bank demonetised currency conversion case". With the arrest of seven persons, the Noida Police Monday claimed to have busted a gang that made fake documents like Aadhaar cards, driving licenses and college mark sheets. The fraud came to light on Sunday when Pawan Kumar Verma, who runs a private company, approached the police claiming that one of his employees had got the job in his firm using forged documents, the police said. A case was registered at the Phase 3 Police Station and probe taken up, an officer said. "Preliminary inquiry led the investigators to the gang operating from a park in Sector 71," the official said. Goa: Woman who accused Monserratte of rape goes missing
The woman who lodged a rape case against former Goa minister and Congress' Panaji bypoll nominee Atanasio Monserratte has gone missing from a rehabilitation facility here, police said on Monday. Verna police inspector Sandesh Chodankar said the woman, who charged Monserratte with drugging and raping her in 2016 when she was a minor, was undergoing rehabilitation at a facility in South Goa district from where she went missing on April 28. Last month, a missing person complaint was lodged and later on May 10, the police registered an FIR for offence of abduction against an unknown person, Chodankar said, adding that efforts were on to trace the woman. Monserratte, who is contesting the upcoming Panaji Assembly bypoll on Congress' ticket, was booked in May 2016 for allegedly raping the woman in March that year, when she was 17 years' old.
