Prosecutors say a Connecticut woman who was imprisoned for mailing cookies laced with rat poison to Supreme Court justices and others has pleaded guilty to escaping from federal custody. Seventy-three-year-old Barbara March signed out of a halfway house in Washington, D.C., where she was completing her sentence in April 2018 and did not return as scheduled. She was arrested in Bridgeport in October. In October 2006 she was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sending the poisoned baked goods to judges, FBI officials and military leaders. Prosecutors say March pleaded guilty Friday to escaping from federal custody in federal court in Bridgeport. She faces a maximum prison term of five years.

Customs officials have nabbed a person with 3.3 kgs smuggled gold at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.According to officials, the accused named Chowtipalli Suresh, who was travelling back to Hyderabad from Singapore, was nabbed on May 5 on suspicion of carrying smuggled gold.The gold was concealed in a tailored cloth and tied to his waist and also hidden in his shoes.A case has been booked against the accused in this regard.
Three persons were arrested after weapons were allegedly recovered from their possession on Monday, the police said. Acting on a tip-off, the special task force and the Sahibabad police have arrested Harendra, Ashok and Rohit near the Hindan air force station around 6.30 am, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Upendra Agarwal said. Three men, including an employee of a multiplex chain, were arrested for allegedly duping the company of Rs 14 lakh in west Delhi, police said on Monday. According to a complaint by the manager, one person arrived at the multiplex in Naraina area on April 30, claiming to be a representative of the private firm appointed by the bank that collects the cash of the theatre. The accused entered his fake particulars at the security register, produced his identity card and took away Rs 14.14 lakh from the multiplex's accountant, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said. The fraud came to light when the real representative the cash-collecting firm reached at spot. The manager also alleged that the accountant did not thoroughly verify the accused while handing over the cash, Bhardwaj said. A 22-year-old man was killed Monday after a speeding RTV bus allegedly hit him from behind in west Delhi's Janakpuri area, police said. The deceased, identified as Sonu, was a resident of the Dabri extension area, they said. According to a senior police officer, the accident took place at around 11 am on Pankha Road in the Janakpuri area and the victim died on the spot. A postmortem was conducted at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and the body handed over to the family, police said. Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh's son-in-law Dr Puneet Gupta Monday appeared before Raipur Police in a case of alleged financial irregularities during his tenure as superintendent of a state-run hospital here, an official said. Gupta was arrested at the police station and later released as he had been awarded an anticipatory bail by the Chhattisgarh High Court in the case, Raipur Superintendent of Police Arif Sheikh told PTI. Noted Jurist Soli Sorabjee Monday said the Supreme Court's In-House Inquiry Committee was "absolutely correct" in holding that there is no substance in the allegations of sexual harassment levelled against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi by a former woman employee of the apex court. The senior advocate was also of the view that the complainant should not have walked out of the proceedings, after which the three-member committee proceeded ex-parte. "The decision of the committee is absolutely correct. The inquiry was done by independent judges," Sorabjee said.
