After retirement, B P Sharma re-employed as Pawan Hans CMD

B P Sharma has been re-employed as the chief of the state-run helicopter manufacturer Pawan Hans, according to a Personnel Ministry order. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved re-employment of Sharma as the chairman and managing director (CMD) of Pawan Hans Limited for a period of five months, it said. Sharma took over as the CMD of Pawan Hans in March 2015. He superannuated last month-end. Pawan Hans has a fleet of more than 50 helicopters.

Muzaffarnagar riots: Non-bailable warrants issued against 6 accused in Kawal killing case

A court in Muzaffarnagar Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants against six accused for not surrendering in connection with the killings in Kawal village here. The Chief Judicial Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Hote has again issued NBWs against accused Ravinder, Prehlad, Bishan, Tendulkar, Devender and Jitender and asked the police to produce them in the court in the murder case. According to complainant's lawyer Mohsin Zaidi, a complaint was filed by Shahnawaz's father who alleged that he was stabbed to death by the accused at Kawal village in the district on August 27, 2013. The incident led to widespread violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts in which more than 60 people were killed and over 40,000 people were displaced.

STF arrests man, recovers ancient idols worth Rs 2.5 crore

The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch of Odisha Police Wednesday arrested a man after two ancient idols worth more than Rs 2.5 crore were recovered from his possession, a police officer said. On a tip-off the STF team Tuesday night raided the house of one Sayed Zilnoor alias Kaka alias Raja (46) at Jadupur village near here. Zilnoor was arrested Wednesday after the idols were recovered, STF DSP, P R Satpathy said adding that a case has been registered against him. The weight of the idols was found to be 18.440 kg and 12.060 kg respectively. The cost of the seized idols would be around Rs 2.5 crore in international market, he said. The DSP said the idols were made of 'Asta Dhatu' (eight metals) and there was no document with the accused in support of his posession of the idols. In another incident, Excise officials Wednesday arrested a student of a private engineering college after seizing 83 gm brown sugar from his possession, police said.

Hockey veteran Mukesh Kumar booked on charges of getting IA

A cheating case has been registered against triple Olympian and former India hockey team captain N Mukesh Kumar and his brother for allegedly obtaining fake Scheduled Caste certificates and securing jobs in the Indian Airlines, police said here Wednesday. Acting on a complaint by a local 'Tahasildar', an FIR had been registered under the Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating) an 471 (using as genuine a forged document) against Kumar and his brother Suresh Kumar, Bowenpally Police Station Inspector D Rajesh told PTI. Kumar, an Arjuna awardee, and his brother allegedly furnished false SC 'A' Mala caste certificates and secured employment in the state-run Indian Airlines while they belonged to backward class 'A Nayee Brahmin" community, he said quoting the complaint. HC refuses to set aside Nigerian man's deportation after expiry of his medical visa

The Delhi High Court has refused to set aside the deportation order for a Nigerian national, who was staying here even after expiry of his medical visa in 2015. The court dismissed the plea of a pregnant Indian woman who urged that her husband, a foreign national, be allowed to stay here and that his visa be extended on payment of penalty. "Undoubtedly, the petitioner (woman) has presented certain mitigating circumstances. However, except sympathising with her condition, this court is unable to provide any relief to the petitioner," Justice Vibhu Bakhru said. The man had arrived in India on March 16, 2015 on a medical visa, that was issued to him in Lagos by the Indian High Commission. It was valid for one month from March 4 to April 3, 2015. HC stays city court's order to CBI on ponzi scam probe papers

The Calcutta High Court Wednesday stayed an order of a magistrate court here that directed the CBI to submit certain documents related to a ponzi scam probe, till the HC delivers its judgement on a prayer by the agency challenging the magistrate's directions. Justice Shivakant Prasad reserved the judgement as he concluded hearing in the CBI application. A case was filed at Ballygunge police station in connection with a few hundred investors in Rose Valley ponzi scheme storming a south Kolkata hotel, which was run by the company, demanding return of their money. CAS dismisses Karim Ibrahim's appeal on ouster from IAAF Council

Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Wednesday dismissed Karim Ibrahim's appeal against the International Association of Athletics Federations' (IAAF) decision to remove him from the IAAF Council.The IAAF Vetting Panel had, in August last year, found Ibrahim ineligible within the meaning of the IAAF Constitution and IAAF Vetting Rules to hold office as a Council Member.In dismissing Ibrahim's appeal, the CAS Sole Arbitrator Murray Rosen QC found that "the Vetting Panel was fully entitled to find that Mr Ibrahim was not eligible and there was nothing unfair about the process and result of its investigation to that effect.""The Appellant failed to satisfy the Integrity Check and also failed to meet his disclosure obligations," Rosen further determined.CAS ruled that Ibrahim should pay the costs of the appeal process and further ordered him to pay CHF 4000 (four thousand Swiss Francs) to the IAAF as a contribution toward its legal and other costs incurred in connection with the ...

CBI files supplementary charge sheet in Dabholkar murder case

The CBI has filed a supplementary chargesheet before a Pune court in the murder case of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar against two alleged shooters Sachin Andure and Sharad Kalaskar, officials said Wednesday. In the chargesheet filed before the Special CBI Court on Wednesday, the agency has charged Andure and Kalaskar under Indian Penal Code sections for criminal conspiracy and murder and provisions of Arms Act and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, they said. The agency has said the probe to look for motorcycle used for the killing and the weapon used is still going on. The CBI has registered the case on June 2, 2014. Dabholkar was killed on August 20, 2013 when he was on a morning walk on the Onkareshwar Bridge in Pune, they said. It is alleged that Andure was the first shooter who fired on Dabholkar while an armed Kalaskar also accompanied him. Talathi, another official held while taking bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two revenue officials while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 in the district Wednesday. Inspector Gajendra Kshirsagar of Yavatmal ACB said the bureau had received a complaint against talathi (village-level revenue official) Rajesh Taksande (46) and Circle Officer Sanjeev Rohankar. Taksande and Rohankar had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from a person to issue a '7/12' extract for his land after certain deletions. The '7/12' extract is used as a land title certificate. After some negotiations, the duo allegedly agreed to reduce the bribe to Rs 7,000, the police official said. On Wednesday, ACB sleuths laid a trap and arrested the duo when Taksande allegedly accepted the cash from the complainant in the presence of Rohankar at a revenue office at village Varadh. The duo were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Fire at Karol Bagh hotel: Delhi court sends 2 men to 2-day police custody

Three held for selling fake vehicle insurance policies

Three men have been arrested for allegedly duping several two-wheeler owners in the city by selling fake vehicle insurance policies to them, a senior police official said Wednesday. A preliminary probe by the police has revealed that the accused have so far sold over 800 bogus insurance policies in the city, the official said. Based on a complaint lodged by one of the victims in the case, a police team raided the office of 'One Point Solutions General Insurance' at Lower Parel in central Mumbai on Tuesday. A court in Ludhiana on Wednesday remanded the three men, arrested in connection with the gang rape of a woman here, for seven days in police custody even as the accused were manhandled by Akali Dal supporters. Three killed in car crash near Punjab's Muktsar

Three men were killed on Wednesday when the car they were travelling in collided with an oil tanker on the outskirts of Muktsar town in Punjab, police said. Maldives' former president Abdulla Yameen charged with money laundering

Maldives' former president Abdulla Yameen, who is accused of using money stolen from state coffers, was charged with money laundering on Wednesday, according to a local media report.
