'TMC blaming BJP for Satyajit Biswas' death on directions of Mamata'

BJP leader Mukul Roy on Sunday claimed that allegations were being levelled on his party over TMC legislator Satyajit Biswas's death based on directions issued by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee."In the entire state of West Bengal, when anybody is killed by their own people or by other miscreants, the TMC government tries to implicate that it is by leaders and workers of BJP. I demand a probe by an independent agency (over Biswas' death). Mamata Banerjee is scared of us. Woman kills self, her son in Guj; daughter critical

A 35-year-old woman and her four-year-old son died Sunday after allegedly drinking poison in Gujarat's Junagad district, police said. The daughter of the woman, identified as Arunaben Savaliya, who was also made to consume the substance, is in a critical condition. A police official said a domestic dispute seems to be the cause behind the suicide by Savaliya. As per police, Savaliya made her son Lakshya and daughter Rashi consume poison at their home in Piyava village in Visavadar taluka, around 320 kms from here. While Lakshya died on the spot, Savaliya and Rashi were rushed to Visavadar referral hospital, a local police station official said, adding that the woman died during treatment. Rashi is battling for her life, he said. "The woman consumed poison along with her son and daughter, apparently after a domestic dispute. However, the exact trigger behind the extreme step is not known," the police official said, adding that further investigation is on.

DCW helps woman recover money she was duped of by placement agency

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has helped a woman recover money that she had paid to a placement agency in north Delhi's Mangolpuri area with had falsely promised her a lucrative job in a school. The commission on Sunday said a 26-year-old woman applied for a job after seeing an advertisement in a newspaper put in by the placement agency. "The woman realised that she had been duped when even after many days no job offer had come, and the agency also did not reply to her phone calls. She then called the Delhi Commission for Women at its 181 Women's Helpline, seeking help in the matter," a DCW statement said. The commission said it immediately set up a team and a counsellor was sent to meet the woman. She was then taken to the police station to file a complaint. The counsellor then accompanied the woman to the placement agency and dialled 100, it said. Delhi: 7 year old missing girl found dead in park

A seven-year-old girl was found dead in a Delhi park on Sunday morning.The girl had gone missing on Saturday late evening and a missing person complaint was registered by her parents at the local police station.However, the dead body of the child was recovered from the Nihal Vihar park this morning.The body was sent for postmortem and police said an investigation is underway.

BJP's Mukul Roy, 3 others booked for TMC MLA's killing; blame game on

BJP leader Mukul Roy was among the four people booked on Sunday in connection with the killing of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Satyajit Biswas in West Bengal's Nadia district, police said. Roy, on his part, said the decision to name him in the FIR was "politically motivated". A West Bengal Police officer told PTI that two of the four people named in the FIR have been arrested. "So far, we have arrested two persons in this case and detained another three. A country-made revolver used to shoot the MLA has also been recovered. Shillong: CBI grilling Kolkata Police chief, former TMC MP in Saradha chit fund case

Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and former TMC MP Kunal Ghosh are being questioned at the CBI office here in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam. The questioning of Kumar, as per the directions of the Supreme Court, continued for the second day on Sunday. The Kolkata Police chief was quizzed for nearly nine hours on Saturday by three senior CBI officers about his alleged role in tampering of crucial evidence in the case, officials said. Indian man in Dubai charged with sexually harassing British tourist

An Indian man in Dubai has been charged with sexually harassing a British tourist inside a lift at a residential tower. The 24-year-old Indian worker was charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance after the prosecutors accused him of exposing himself to the 35-year-old tourist and inappropriately touching her. "Around 4.40 pm on the day of the incident, I was going to practise yoga at the gym on the 37th floor. An Asian man took the lift with me. It was just the two of us. He stood so close to me in a way to touch me. I was moving away but he would not step away from my left side. I could hear him moaning," the victim was quoted as saying by the Khaleej Times. Three officials booked for executing sub-standard works under PMGSY in Doda

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against three government officials and a contractor for allegedly executing sub-standard works under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said. An FIR under various sections of prevention of corruption act and Ranbir Penal Code was registered against the officials of PMGSY division Thathri and the contractor on the basis of joint surprise check conducted into the allegations that sub-standard material was used for the construction of 4.5 km of road from Barry to Gandoh, a spokesman of the ACB said Sunday. Probe ordered into 'manhandling' of woman by cops in Shopian: Police

Police Sunday ordered a probe into alleged manhandling of woman by cops in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The inquiry was ordered after a 15-second video clip, showing two cops manhandling a woman in a village in Shopian on Saturday night, went viral on social media. "The video is being probed and an inquiry is ordered to examine the conduct of the policemen," a police spokesman said. The spokesman said the cops had gone to the house of one Rameez Khan while investigating a case of kidnapping of a minor girl. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the killing of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Satyajit Biswas in Nadia in West Bengal, police said on Sunday.Biswas, who was elected from Krishnaganj in Nadia district, was shot dead by unidentified assailants at a Saraswati puja on Saturday.Those arrested have been identified as Sujit Mondal and Kartik Mondal.The police have also suspended the officer-in-charge (OC) of Hanskhali Police Station. 1 killed in police firing after weapon-laden car intercepted

An unidentified person was killed in retaliatory firing by police when he and his associates allegedly attacked the security men for intercepting their car laden with weapons in Solapur district of Maharashtra in the wee hours of Sunday, an official said. Three policemen also received injuries in the attack by occupants of the four-wheeler, he said. Solapur taluka police station in-charge Vijay Patil and three other policemen were on night patrolling duty when they intercepted the vehicle, in which four to five people were travelling, on suspicion around 3.30 am in Ulegaon area, located around 400 km from here, he said. The police team found some inflammable material and weapons inside the vehicle, the official said. HC dismisses medical negligence plea against doctor

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea alleging medical negligence by a neurosurgeon leading to death of a woman, who was suffering from brain tumour. Justice Vibhu Bakhru said the issue of whether there was any negligence on the doctor's part is to be assessed by the medical practitioner and unless it is shown that there was any flaw in the decision making process or there was malafide, no interference by the court would be warranted.
