MP Assembly polls: Not in race for chief minister's post, says Scindia

Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said he was not in the race for the chief minister's post in Madhya Pradesh. Scindia on Friday cast his vote at a polling booth in Gwalior. "I have told you (media) earlier, I am not in the chief ministerial race. I was neither in this race earlier nor today. You have asked me repeatedly in 2013, 2018 and now and I told you the same," he said after casting his vote. The civil aviation minister also said that the people of the state would make Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) win this election with full majority in order to secure their future, and for development and progress. The BJP has not projected any chief ministerial face in the state, where polling for the 230-member assembly is currently underway. The Congress government under state party chief Kamal Nath, which came to power after the assembly polls in 2018, collapsed in March 2020 following a revolt by several MLAs loyal to Scindia. It pav

Kamal Nath accuses BJP of bribing voters with liquor on MP poll eve

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath on Friday accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of distributing money and liquor to voters on the eve of the state assembly elections. Polling for the 230-member state assembly is underway on Friday. Talking to reporters at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office here, Nath claimed, "Only police, money and administration are left with the BJP. They distributed money and liquor the entire day yesterday. I have received several videos." He also alleged that the BJP created a ruckus in the police station located in Indore-1 assembly constituency, and that he held talks with the officials there about the situation. When asked about state BJP chief V D Sharma's allegations that Congress was involved in hooliganism, Nath said, "They have nothing left to say. Do they have any examples for this (Congress hooliganism)?" In the morning, state Home Minister Narottam Mishra said if any party other than the BJP wins the election, then ...

Sena UBT writes to ECI, takes exception to BJP's election promise in MP

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday said that after Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised that the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh will arrange a trip to Ayodhya for the state's people if it retained power, the Sena has written to the Election Commission of India asking whether it has relaxed the Model Code of Conduct. The letter written by the Shiv Sena (UBT) accused the ECI of practising "double standards" in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Speaking at a news conference here, Thackeray said the 1987 bypoll in Vile Parle assembly constituency in Maharashtra was fought on the issue of Hindutva which led to the poll body revoking Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's voting rights. We feel the Model Code of Conduct has been relaxed (this time around). If that is the case, we should know about it, the former Maharashtra chief minister said. Giving the BJP a free hit and dismissing us as a hit wicket does not amount to holding free and fair elections, Thackeray ...

Yadav sees 'wave of change' in MP; alleges Cong inaction on Mandal report

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday claimed a "wave of change" was visible in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh and blasted the saffron outfit for making "false promises" to voters to retain power. Attacking his INDIA bloc ally Congress, Yadav said the Grand Old Party, when it headed the government at the Centre, did not implement the Mandal Commission recommendations. A wave of change was prevailing in Madhya Pradesh and SP candidates are going to win elections with a record margin," he stated. The former Uttar Pradesh CM was addressing an election meeting to drum up support for his party candidate from Niwari, Meera Yadav, on the last day of campaigning for the November 17 assembly polls. The SP has fielded 71 candidates in MP, which has a 230-member assembly, after it failed to enter into a pre-poll truck with the Congress - the largest constituent of the opposition INDIA grouping. "The Congress and the BJP formed governments in Madhya Pradesh but people ...
