Merger of 7 subsidiaries with Tata Steel to complete by FY24: CEO Narendran

The merger of 7 subsidiary companies with Tata Steel is expected to be completed in 2023-24 fiscal year, its CEO and managing director T V Narendran said. In September 2022, Tata Steel board had approved a proposal to merge six of its subsidiaries into itself for greater synergies, higher efficiency and reduce costs. "We had already announced (merger of) 6 companies earlier. (Merger of) one more Angul Energy we announced recently," he told PTI in reply to a question on the timeline for the merger. However, the completion of the merger depends on the regulatory processes including NCLT clearances, post which the process is expected to be completed in the next financial year, the CEO said. "We are dependent on the speed at which we can go through our regulatory requirements," he added. Besides Angul Energy, the six subsidiaries to be merged with Tata Steel are Tata Steel Long Products (TSPL), The Tinplate Company of India, Tata Metaliks, TRF, Indian Steel & Wire Products, and Tata .

Macro data, global cues to guide markets this week, say analysts

Trading activity in the domestic equity markets this week will be largely driven by inflation data, trend in global markets and foreign fund movement, analysts said. Participants will also monitor developments related to the Adani Group crisis, which has been a major overhang recently, they added. "...the movement of crude oil, the dollar index, and US bond yields will be other important factors. The institutional flow will be important as FIIs' selling has come down after relentless selling in January," Santosh Meena, Head of Research at Swastika Investmart Ltd, said. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth a net Rs 144.73 crore last week. This week, the market will be awaiting key inflation data from the US and India for clues on the rate hike trajectory of central banks. Retail inflation data for both the US and India is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday. Last week, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) hiked the key benchmark policy rate by 25 basis point

Nayara Energy Q3 profit up 2% as shutdown, windfall tax impact margins

Nayara Energy, India's second largest private oil refining and fuel marketing company, saw its net profit rise by a marginal 2 per cent in the third quarter ended December 31 as the company undertook a month-long maintenance shutdown and windfall tax impacted margins. Net profit of Rs 869.8 crore in October-December compared with Rs 850.3 crore profit in the same period a year back, according to a stock exchange filing by the company. Revenue from operations dropped to Rs 24,757.7 crore in the third quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 32,412.9 crore a year back. This was mainly because the company fully shut its 400,000 barrels per day or 20 million tonnes per annum Vadinar refinery in Gujarat for about a month in November for routine maintenance. The firm also operates a network of 6,497 petrol pumps or 7.5 per cent of all fuel stations in the country. For the first nine months of the current fiscal, Nayara reported a net profit of Rs 6,226.9 crore on a turnover of Rs 1 lakh cr

LIC's net income jumps manifold to Rs 8,334.2 crore in December quarter

Public sector insurer LIC on Thursday reported manifold jump in net income at Rs 8,334.2 crore during the three months ended December 2022 as against Rs 235 crore a year ago. The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) earned Rs 1,11,787.6 crore in net premium income during the reporting quarter as against Rs 97,620.34 crore in the year-ago period, it said in a regulatory filing. The numbers are strictly not comparable as the insurer was not a publicly traded company earlier. LIC's income from investments rose to Rs 84,889 crore from Rs 76,574.24 crore a year ago, the filing said. Its investments into the crisis-ridden Adani Group has been under tremendous criticism even though the value of the investment of close to Rs 36,000 crore are still in the green despite those shares losing almost 60 per cent of their value since January 25.

Hindalco PAT drops 63% in December quarter on elevated input costs

Hindalco Industries, the Aditya Birla Group metals flagship, on Thursday posted a 62.9 per cent decline in consolidated profit after tax at Rs 1,362 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2022 mainly due to elevated input costs, unfavourable macros and inflationary impacts. The company had posted consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 3,675 crore in the year-ago period, Hindalco said in a regulatory filing. "Consolidated PAT in Q3 FY23 was at Rs 1,362 crore compared to Rs 3,675 crore in Q3 FY22, a decline of 63 per cent YoY (Year-on-Year)," the company said in a statement. However, the revenue from operations in the third quarter increased to Rs 53,151 crore, over Rs 50,272 crore a year ago, the filing said. "Though the India aluminium upstream business EBITDA came under pressure from the surge in input costs and lower realisations, this was partially offset by higher volumes. The India aluminium downstream business segment delivered a higher EBITDA YoY, due to higher volumes
