The company first introduced the model in the year 2000 and by 2004 it became the country's highest-selling car. It crossed the 10 lakh sales mark in 2008; 20 lakh in 2012; 30 lakh mark in 2016. In August 2020, the model crossed the 40 lakh sales mark. Marut Suzuki India on Monday said its board has approved the acquisition of the entire stake in Suzuki Motor Gujarat from Japan-based parent Suzuki Motor Corporation. Currently, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) owns a 100 per cent stake in Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) which supplies its entire production to Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki board in its meeting held on Monday approved the termination of the contract manufacturing agreement with SMG, the auto major said in a regulatory filing. The company's board also approved to exercise the option to acquire SMG stake from SMC subject to all legal and regulatory compliances including minority shareholders' approval. The auto major expects to complete the transaction by March 31, 2024. It noted that the mode of acquisition including consideration to be paid to SMC shall be decided in a subsequent board meeting. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday said it has launched a CNG trim of its compact SUV Fronx with price starting at Rs 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom). The two trims -- Sigma and Delta -- are tagged at Rs 8.41 lakh and Rs 9.27 lakh, respectively. The CNG variants come mated with a 1.2 litre petrol engine with a power output of 77.5PS and a fuel efficiency of 28.51 km/kg. "In 2010, we introduced our first CNG-equipped model, and since then, we have sold more than 1.4 million S-CNG vehicles in the country, which is a true testament to our customers' trust and faith in our technology," MSI Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava said in a statement. The company is confident that the Fronx S-CNG will increase the share of S-CNG cars in its overall sales, and further strengthen the green mobility portfolio, now consisting of 15 models which is the best in the industry, he added.

Maruti Suzuki expects to keep growing faster than the domestic passenger vehicle industry riding on the back of strong demand for its models especially the SUV range, according to a senior company executive. The auto major anticipates the overall passenger vehicle market to grow in the range of 5-7 per cent this fiscal. In an interaction with PTI, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava said the PV industry is expected to close the current fiscal at 40.5-41.3 lakh units. "We have not revised our estimates which we had made at the beginning of the year. We said the industry growth would be in the 5-7 per cent range and our growth should be higher than the industry," Srivastava said. He noted that in the first quarter, the company grew by 12.2 per cent while the industry grew by around 9.5 per cent. The first batch of 556 vehicles was shipped from Mundra, Mumbai and Pipavav Ports to destinations in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, the country's largest carmaker said in a statement. "The newly launched Fronx is an important model in our portfolio, and we are confident that it will augment our ambitious export plans," Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi noted. Aligned with the Government of India's efforts towards Make in India, the automaker is focused on leading the export of cars manufactured in India, he added. "With support from our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan we have expanded our portfolio and are now exporting to more markets," Takeuchi said.
