Dog-bite cases: About 1,100 pet dogs registered since April 2022, says MCD

MCD on Friday said it has registered about 1,100 pet dogs since April 1, an exercise that began to check rising incidents of dog-bite. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had on September 11 asked residents to get their pets registered in view of "rising incidents of dog-bite" in the national capital region, and warned that action could be taken for non-compliance of the norm. "About 1,100 pet dogs have been registered from April till now," a senior official said. Under the section 399 of Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act, 1957, it is mandatory to register all pet dogs with the municipal corporation. The section also gives power to the MCD to detain a pet dog found in a public place, if it is not registered with it, the civic body had earlier said. Dog-bite cases have been reported in the last few days in Noida, Ghaziabad, and other parts of the region. "In view of increasing number of dog-bite incidents, the MCD urges citizens to get their pet dogs registered," the MCD

Announcing the party's decision at a press conference, Delhi Environment Minister and the AAP's city unit convener Gopal Rai on Tuesday said the party leaders, in the first phase of the campaign, will take people to the three landfill sites -- Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalswa -- to show them the "biggest achievement" of the BJP, which has ruled the municipal corporation in the national capital for 15 years. The trips to the three "mountains of garbage" will be organised on three days starting Wednesday under the theme 'BJP ka chamatkar dekho, kude ka pahad dekho' (See the BJP's miracle, see the garbage hills), the AAP leader said. He said if the dumping of garbage is stopped now, it will take at least 27 years to clear the landfill sites, goi

MCD denies its school infrastructure 'poorer than Delhi govt-run schools'

On a day several AAP MLAs visited Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run schools and highlighted their "poor condition" to corner the BJP, the civic body hit back, denying its school infrastructure was "poorer than those run by the city government". In a statement, the MCD said an "intrusion by a group of 30-40 people in their schools were uncalled-for" and the children had to "suffer a rude break to the harmonious rhythm of their learning process". "A reckless competition to parade video clips of MCD classrooms on Twitter and other social media platforms began to prove that MCD schools have poor infrastructure and have overburdened teachers and overflowing classes. It is hoped that NCPCR, Delhi Commission of Women, DCPCR, etc. take note of such breach and call for appropriate action against trespassers in schools who put safety and security of children at bay," the civic body said. The AAP legislators, including the party's chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj, live-streamed their vis
