Crypto fraud: Navi Mumbai cyber police freeze accounts worth Rs 32.66 cr

The Navi Mumbai cyber police conducting the probe into a cryptocurrency fraud have frozen several bank accounts involving amounts worth Rs 32.66 crore, an official said on Wednesday. Senior police inspector Gajanan Kadam of the cyber police station in Navi Mumbai said they received a cheating complaint in August from a man who claimed to have invested more than Rs 6.6 crore in cryptocurrency trading. The man stated in the complaint that a woman caller befriended him and later asked him to invest in cryptocurrency trading while assuring good returns. As the complainant started investing huge amounts, he received a total of Rs 75 lakh in returns on various occasions, but later stopped getting the same, the official said. An offence in this connection was registered with the cyber police under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. 7 developers booked for carrying out illegal construction in Navi Mumbai

An offence has been registered against seven developers for carrying out construction works without seeking permission from the civic authorities in Navi Mumbai, police said on Sunday. Based on a complaint lodged by an official of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the police on Saturday registered a case under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, an official said. The developers had allegedly been carrying out construction activities at seven locations in Turbhe since August without the NMMC's permission, he said. No arrest has been made in the case and further probe is underway, the official said.

2 killed, 6 injured as building slab collapses in Navi Mumbai: Officials

Two persons were killed and six others injured when the slab of a 20-year-old residential building collapsed in Nerul area of Navi Mumbai, fire brigade officials said on Thursday. The third floor ceiling slab of the four-storey Tulsi Bhavan building located at Shirsole in Nerul collapsed at around 8.50 pm on Wednesday, they said. The slab came crashing down on the second and first floors, killing a labourer and another person, divisional fire officer Purushottam Jadhav said. The building has four wings and the slab collapsed in its 'B' wing, he said. Some civil work was underway on the third floor when the slab collapsed, said another fire official. The building has a tailoring shop on the ground floor and the shopkeeper closed the outlet and left the place a few minutes before the incident, he said. 524 buildings declared dangerous in Navi Mumbai, occupants asked to vacate

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has declared 524 buildings under its jurisdiction as dangerous after a detailed survey in the city limits, the civic body said on Thursday. Out of these buildings, 61 fall in C-1 category (most dangerous, unfit for occupation and require immediate demolition), 114 are in C-2A category (need to be vacated and structural repairs required), 300 in C-2B (need repairs without vacating) and 49 in C-3 (need minor repairs), Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar said in a release. The power and water supply to buildings classified as C-1 will be immediately disconnected. These buildings need to be razed immediately, the civic body said. The owners and occupants of the dangerous buildings have been asked to vacate the premises to avert any accident and loss of life, the release said. E-cigarettes worth Rs 6.44 lakh seized in Navi Mumbai, say police

Banned e-cigarettes worth Rs 6.44 lakh were seized from a shop in Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, a police official said on Thursday. The raid was carried out by the police's Anti Narcotics Cell on May 3 and an offence has been registered under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage and Advertisement) Act, 2019, the Kharghar police station official said. No arrest has been made so far and a probe into the e-cigarette sourcing and supply network was underway, he added. Electronic-cigarettes are battery-operated devices that produce aerosol by heating a solution containing nicotine, which incidentally is the addictive substance in combustible cigarettes. Navi Mumbai civic body to start health-check drive for children from Feb 9

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will launch a health check-up drive beginning February 9 for children and teenagers in the age group of 0-18 years, an official has said. This drive is being implemented under a state government programme for the healthy child. A total of 45 teams have been formed by the NMMC for the purpose. "There are 1,73,913 students in 283 schools and 37,901 students in 352 anganwadis/balwadis who will also be covered under the scheme. These include the students in the government, aided, private, special schools and orphanages, ashram schools and juvenile homes in the limits of the NMMC," the release said on Tuesday.

Boost for Navi Mumbai metro project with financial closure for line 1

The process of financial closure for line number 1 of the upcoming Navi Mumbai metro project has been completed with the signing of an agreement between CIDCO and ICICI Bank for the Rs 500 crore line of credit, a release said on Wednesday. Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 project is a three-coach metro train. The 11.1-km Belapur to Pendhar stretch of the project comprises 11 stations. "City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) signed an agreement for the industrial line of credit for Rs 500 crore with the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI). With this, the financial closure process for the metro line no. 1 project has been completed," CIDCO said in a release. 1 killed, 3 injured in high-pressure gas leak at Navi Mumbai power plant

A chief boiler supervisor was killed and three others injured on Sunday after gas leaked from a high-pressure booster pump at the gas turbine power station of the Maharashtra Power Generation Company at Uran in Navi Mumbai, officials said. Police had earlier said an explosion in the boiler pump of the unit, located 48 km from Mumbai, led to the casualties. A statement from the Maharashtra Power Generation Company (Mahagenco) said at about 1230 hrs, there was a gas leak from a high-pressure booster pump, while a 120 MW unit located nearby was operational at Uran. Police said the leak was akin to an explosion, which led to the casualties. A team of Vivek Dhumale, the deceased supervisor, boiler technician K K Patil and Vishnu Patil, a helper who is a contractual employee, was carrying out a routine inspection when the accident occurred, Mahagenco said. Watch closed factories to contain drug menace: Navi Mumbai Commissioner

Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Bipin Kumar Singh has asked officials to keep a watch on closed factories in the town to check narcotics are not manufactured there, in the wake of a number of cases of drugs seizure in neighbouring Mumbai in the recent past. During a meeting of the district-level narcotics committee on Wednesday, Singh said several containers arrive at Uran and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Navi Mumbai, and asked the Coast Guard to keep an eye on them to prevent any movement of narcotics.
