Cold wave in Punjab, Haryana; Faridkot coldest at zero degrees celsius

Cold weather conditions continued in several areas of Punjab and neighboring Haryana, with Faridkot being the coldest place in the region, recording a minimum temperature of 0 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, officials said. Cold wave hits Delhi, early Dec temp touches 14-year-low at 4.9 deg C: IMD

Chilly winds on Wednesday marked the arrival of cold wave conditions in the national capital as Delhi recorded a low of 4.9 degrees Celsius, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The minimum temperatures in early December have been recorded below 5 degrees Celsius for the first time in 14 years, it said. According to data, the lowest minimum temperature during this period was recorded on December 6, 1987, at 4.1 degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued a yellow alert, warning of similar cold wave conditions for the next two days. The night-time temperature was recorded at 4.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, 4.7 notches below the normal. On Tuesday, it was 8 degrees Celsius. According to the data, in December 2023 and 2022, there were no cold wave days. However, November 2020 saw cold wave conditions with the minimum temperature plunging to 7.5 degrees Celsius. Delhi records minimum temperature of 11 deg C, haze in parts of city

The mercury settled at 11 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning in Delhi as a partial haze enveloped parts of the city, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The relative humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 97 per cent, the IMD's weather bulletin said. The weather office on Monday had forecast a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of very light rain or drizzle and shallow fog on Tuesday morning. The Safdarjung Observatory's minimum temperature reading stood at 11 degrees Celsius around 9.45 am. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 24 degrees Celsius, the bulletin said. The air quality index (AQI) recorded at 10 am on Tuesday stood at 327 in the 'very poor' category. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

No relief in cold wave conditions in North India, temperature below normal

There was no let-up in the cold wave condition in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday with minimum temperatures staying below normal at several places. Hisar in Haryana was the coldest place as it shivered at 3.1 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal, according to a report of the Meteorological Department here. Among other places, Ambala and Karnal experienced cold weather conditions at 6.2 and 4.6 degrees Celsius respectively. Narnaul, Sirsa, Faridabad, and Fatehabad recorded 7.6 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees Celsius, 3.9 degrees Celsius, and 3.6 degrees Celsius. Faridkot in Punjab was the coldest place in the state as it shivered at 3.6 degrees Celsius.
