PM Modi accuses Opposition, says alliance playing negative politics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the opposition of playing "negative politics" and said now the entire country is rooting for corruption, dynasty and appeasement to 'quit India'. Addressing an event after laying the foundation stone for redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country via video conferencing, he alleged that a section of the opposition is working on the principle that neither will they work nor let others work. A modern Parliament building has been built but part of the opposition even opposed that, Modi said. "For 70 years they did not construct a war memorial for martyrs but did not feel ashamed even to oppose that when we built it," he said. The 'statue of unity' of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is the biggest statue in the world and all Indians feel proud of it, Modi said, adding that some parties remember India's first home minister during polls but none of their big leaders have gone to his statue to pay homage. Modi accused the opposition of

Article 370 abrogation ushered in peace in J-K, says govt; Oppn protests

On the fourth anniversary of Article 370's abrogation, the government on Saturday highlighted that the "historic" decision has ushered in peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir, while opposition parties, including the PDP and the Congress, held protests demanding restoration of statehood. The BJP marked the day with a public meeting in Srinagar and its leaders there said that following the 2019 decision, there has been no shutdowns in the Kashmir Valley, and with the situation getting better, the Union Territory has hosted international events and witnessed record tourist footfall. The biggest change after the abrogation of the article is that the common people of Jammu and Kashmir are living life according to their own wishes, Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha said in Srinagar. The Centre on this day in 2019 had revoked Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated it into union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and ...

SUCI(C) questions INDIA's credibility, slams CPI(M) on alliance with TMC

The SUCI(C) on Saturday questioned the credibility of the INDIA opposition bloc in the fight against the BJP and slammed fellow communist party, CPI(M), of being part of the alliance in which Bengal's ruling TMC is also an ally. The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), which held a rally at the iconic Brigade Parade grounds here after nearly 35 years, slammed the BJP government at the Centre over misrule and anti-people policies. SUCI (C) general secretary Provash Ghosh, while addressing the rally, wondered about the credibility of the Congress in the fight against capitalist and communal forces. "It was during the Congress tenure that capitalist forces were strengthened in the country. And during the Congress period too, communal riots had taken place in the country. Who is this INDIA alliance representing? Does it represent the oppressed and poor section of the country?" he questioned. Wondering whether poor people would benefit and communal harmony be in safe hands if IN

Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for about 30 minutes till 12 noon amid a ruckus between ruling and opposition benches as both sides insisted on taking up their respective issues. Oppn bloc INDIA to skip meeting called by Dhankhar to end RS logjam

The opposition alliance INDIA will not attend the meeting called by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday afternoon to end the logjam in the House over the Manipur issue, sources said. Dhankhar has invited floor leaders of all parties for the meeting in an effort to end the impasse in Rajya Sabha. Proceedings in the Upper House have been disrupted as opposition parties are demanding a discussion on the situation in Manipur under Rule 267, which allows for suspension of the listed business for the day to discuss an issue. Govt failed to control Manipur strife, PM shows brazen indifference: Oppn

Stating that the government machinery has completely failed to control the Manipur ethnic conflict, which is lingering for nearly three months, opposition bloc INDIA on Sunday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his "silence", showing "brazen indifference" to the ongoing situation in the northeastern state. In a memorandum submitted to Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, the 21 opposition MPs who signed the document demanded urgent rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected people to bring peace and harmony to the state. "From the reports of incessant firing and arson of houses in the last few days, it is established beyond doubt that the state machinery has completely failed to control the situation for the last almost three months," the memorandum read. The continued internet ban for the last three months is aiding the unsubstantiated rumours, which is adding to the existing mistrust among the communities, the Parliamentarians said.
