Cong seeks EC action against NaMo TV, says it disturbs level-playing field in election
The Congress Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of mocking and trampling upon democratic norms by "brazenly" running 'NaMo TV' and asked the Election Commission to put a stop to this "misuse" of the media that seeks to disturb the level-playing field during elections. The channel, also called 'Content TV', carries the picture of Prime Minister Modi as its logo. Launched ahead of Lok Sabha polls beginning April 11, it is available on various DTH and cable TV platforms. "The prime minister is trampling upon democratic norms by brazenly and blatantly running 'NaMo TV'. Isn't he mocking the Constitution?" Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala asked. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah will be top campaigners for the party in Goa in the run-up to Lok Sabha elections scheduled on April 23. Apart from Modi and Shah, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, his Cabinet colleagues Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu and Smriti Irani would canvass for the party nominees Shripad Naik and Narendra Sawaikar, who are contesting from North Goa and South Goa constituencies, respectively. House Judiciary panel approves subpoenas for Mueller report
The House Judiciary Committee approved subpoenas Wednesday for special counsel Robert Mueller's full Russia report as Democrats pressure the Justice Department to release the document without redactions. The committee voted 24-17 to give Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., permission to issue subpoenas to the Justice Department for the final report, its exhibits and any underlying evidence or materials prepared for Mueller's investigation. Nadler has not yet said if he'll send the subpoenas. House Democrats had given Attorney General William Barr until Tuesday to produce the full report to Congress. The Justice Department ignored that deadline, with Barr telling committee chairmen in a letter last week that a redacted version of the full 300-page report would be released by mid-April, "if not sooner." J-K govt earmarks 2 days a week for movement of security forces' convoys on highway
