WASHINGTON/DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran said it would defy U.S. sanctions reimposed on it by Washington on Monday, denouncing as "economic war" the U.S. attempt to curb Tehran's missile and nuclear programs and weaken its influence in the Middle East.
China to continue Iran trade despite new US sanctions
China denounced new US sanctions targeting Iran's oil and financial sectors as "long-arm jurisdiction" on Monday and vowed to continue its bilateral trade with the Islamic republic. The measures, which took effect on Monday, follow US President Donald Trump's decision to abandon a multi-nation nuclear deal with Tehran, which he said was flawed and does not adequately constrain Iran's destabilising behaviour in the Middle East. The sanctions aim to significantly cut Iran's oil exports -- which have already fallen by around one million barrels a day since May -- and cut it off from international finance. "China opposes unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction," foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a regular press briefing. "We believe that China's normal cooperation (with Iran) within international law is legal and legitimate, and this shall be respected." The US has given temporary exemptions to eight countries -- including India, Japan and Turkey -- to continue buying .
Seat-sharing talks among parties to be finalised on Nov 9:
The Congress, which is leading the "grand alliance" of opposition parties for the December 7 Legislative Assembly elections in Telangana, Monday said seat-sharing among the parties would be finalised by November 9. "Talks are on with all. Nearly, it has concluded. You will come to know by (November) 9th. There is no problem in seat sharing of the alliance," RC Khuntia, AICC incharge of party affairs in Telangana, told reporters here. Pakistan's state-run news channel has apologised after it ran "Begging" dateline instead of "Beijing" on screen during the live broadcast of Prime Minister Imran Khan's speech at the Central Party School of the ruling Communist Party of China. Tripura govt to give 10,000 cows to farmers thru bank loans:CM
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has said that his government will soon launch a project to provide 10,000 cows to 5,000 farmer families through bank loans to generate employment and meet the demand of milk in the state. Under the project, farmers will have to buy cows with the help of bank loans, interest of which will be paid by the state government, Deb told a meeting of BJP's peasant wing 'Tripura Pradesh Krishak Morcha' here Sunday.
