Rains lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday and the meteorological office here issued a red alert predicting "heavy to very heavy" rainfall with isolated spells of "extremely heavy" rains in eight of its 12 districts during the night. Rain lashes parts of Delhi, city logs minimum temperature of 25.4 degrees

Delhi on Saturday received a fresh spell of rainfall bringing some respite from the humid weather in the city and the minimum temperature settled at 25.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, according to the India Meteorological Department. However, the maximum temperature settled at 35.6 degree Celsius, one notch above the season's average, it said. Rains caused waterlogging, affecting traffic movement in several parts of Delhi, including Firni Road in Najafgarh, Bahardurgarh Road, Patparganj, Vasant Kunj, Mundka and Badarpur. The city recorded 13 mm rainfall till 8.30 am, the IMD said. It has predicted generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle on Sunday. HP rain fury: Death toll over past week climbs to 78; more rains forecast

The death toll in rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh over the past week rose to 78 on Saturday with the recovery of one more body from the debris of a collapsed Shiv temple here, officials said. Himachal surpasses average rainfall for entire monsoon in 54 days

Himachal Pradesh has already received 742 mm of rainfall in 54 days of monsoon this year against a season's average of 730 mm it records between June 1 and September 30, a weather official here said on Wednesday. The rainfall recorded in the state this July broke all records for the month in the last 50 years, Shimla Meteorological Centre Director Surinder Paul told PTI. He added that the towns of Manali, Solan, Rohru, Una, Ghamroor, Hamirpur and Keylong broke previous records of rainfall in a single day for the month on July 9 when the state witnessed unprecedented downpours. Widening cracks in subsidence-hit Joshimath during the monsoon prompted authorities to shift five families to relief camps. Admitting that land-subsidence in areas declared unsafe earlier this year seems to have been aggravated during the monsoon, Chamoli's Disaster Management Officer NK Joshi said five families were shifted from Sunil ward to relief camps two days ago. In January, land subsidence around Joshimath led to hundreds of residents fleeing their homes, which had developed cracks, and taking refuge in hotels, rest houses and at homes of relatives and friends. Torrential rains in the upper catchment areas of the Yamuna will increase the water level of the river in Delhi, but a dire situation is unlikely, officials said on Monday. According to the Central Water Commission's (CWC) website, the water level of the river at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) stood at 203.48 metres at 3 pm and is rising further. The flow rate at the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana's Yamunagar increased to 75,000 cusecs at 9 am, the highest since July 26. The CWC's five-day flood forecast suggests the water level may touch the warning level of 204.5 metres on Wednesday. "We are monitoring the situation. The water level may increase but a grave situation is unlikely," an official of the Delhi government's Irrigation and Flood Control Department said. At least 29 people were killed in Himachal Pradesh, nine of them buried under the rubble of a temple after a landslip in Shimla, as rains wreaked havoc in the state, triggering landslides that blocked key roads and brought down houses, officials said on Monday. 1,457 villages still affected by floods due to heavy rainfall in Punjab

A total of 1,457 villages in Punjab are still affected by floods caused by the recent heavy downpour in the state, officials said on Saturday. Currently, 19 districts Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Kapurthala, Patiala, Moga, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar, Jalandhar, Sangrur, SBS Nagar, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Mansa, Bathinda and Pathankot are flood-affected, they said. A total of 27,221 people were evacuated from waterlogged areas and taken to safer places in the state, the officials said, adding 170 relief camps are operational in which 4,909 flood-hit people are staying. 'Abnormal' rains in 14 Raj districts, only Jaisalmer gets scanty rainfall

Of the 33 districts in the state, 14 districts witnessed 'abnormal' rainfall while as many received 'excess' rains so far this monsoon season, according to official data released on Sunday. All but one district of Rajasthan has received normal or above normal rainfall this monsoon so far, a report issued here by the Water Resources Department showed. Only Jaisalmer witnessed 'scanty' rainfall with rains 60 per cent less than normal, the report said. Downpour continues in UP, 10 killed in rain-related incidents in 24 hours

Ten people were killed in rain-related incidents in the past 24 hours, the Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner said in a statement issued at 9 pm on Saturday, as showers continue to lash the state. "In the past 24 hours, while two (people) died due to drowning in Rampur, seven were killed due to lightning (strike) in Ballia, Mahoba and Lalitpur districts. The incessant rainfall over the weekend has led to a spurt in typhoid and upper respiratory infection cases among people, with experts identifying the elderly and the teenagers as the most vulnerable age groups.
