Over 86,000 elderly benefit from Delhi's 'Teerth Yojana', Rameshwaram tops

Over 86,000 elderly citizens have undertaken pilgrimage under Delhi's Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana (MMTY) since July 2019, with Rameshwaram being the most visited destination. Pilgrims travelled to various religious sites, including Rameshwaram, Dwarkadhish, Jagannath Puri, Tirupati, Shirdi, Ayodhya, Ujjain, Katra (Jammu), Amritsar, and Ajmer, according to a written reply by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to a question by MLA Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat. CM Gupta also holds the portfolio of revenue. From 2019 to 2024, 92 trains were operated under the scheme. Among these, 29 trains went to Rameshwaram, 25 to Dwarkadhish, eight to Jagannath Puri, six to Tirupati, four to Amritsar, one to Ajmer, and the remaining to other locations. The Delhi Assembly provided details on the scheme's execution, covering destinations, facilities, and ongoing evaluations. Delhi CM orders large-scale cleanliness drive, stray animal management

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to launch a large-scale cleanliness drive across the city, remove illegal advertisements from public spaces and implement special measures to manage stray animals. On Wednesday, Gupta held a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat to review the city's cleanliness, civic infrastructure and public amenities, a statement said, adding that the discussion focused on issues such as stray animals, potholes, dust pollution, sewer blockages and illegal advertisements on public properties. Senior officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) were present at the meeting, the statement said. Delhi govt's revenue below projections, except for GST, say officials

The revenue collections of the Delhi government, except for GST and VAT, are likely to remain below the budget projections, officials said on Sunday. According to official data, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Value Added Tax (VAT) collections were Rs 40,009 crore (tentative) as of February 2025. The collections from motor vehicle taxes and excise revenue were Rs 2,810 crore and Rs 5,516 crore, respectively, close to the end of the current fiscal, they said. In its budget for 2024-25, the Delhi government estimated total tax revenue of Rs 58,750 crore. This included Rs 41,000 crore from GST and VAT, Rs 3,600 crore from taxes on motor vehicles, Rs 7,750 crore from stamps and registration fees, and Rs 6,400 crore from excise. The officials said that, except for GST and VAT, revenue collections from motor vehicle taxes and charges, and excise taxes were sluggish.
