Rs 3.7K cr project given to Jio, Airtel for 4G services in untapped areas

The government has allocated a project worth Rs 3,683 crore for providing 4G mobile services in uncovered villages of aspirational districts, an official source said on Monday. Under the project, Bharti Airtel will install 1,083 mobile towers with an expenditure of Rs 847.95 crore in Jharkhand and Maharashtra and Reliance Jio will roll out 3,696 towers for Rs 2,836 crore, the source said. The project was allocated to the companies in May. "The project to provide 4G coverage in uncovered villages of aspirational district of five states was approved by the Cabinet last year. Airtel and Jio have been given 18 months to roll out 4G services in the identified villages," the source said. The project envisages to provide 4G based mobile services in 7,287 uncovered villages of 44 Aspirational Districts across five states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra & Odisha at an estimated cost of implementation about Rs 6,466 crore including operational expenses for five ...

Airtel, Jio drive telecom subscriber base to 116.6 crore in March

Net subscriber addition by Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio increased the overall telecom user base to over 116.69 crore in March 2022, telecom regulator Trai said in its monthly report on Thursday. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio led new customer additions in both mobile telephony as well as fixed line services segment in March. "The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,166.05 million at the end of February 2022 to 1,166.93 million at the end of March 2022," Trai's subscriber report for March said. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) report said that the urban telephone subscription decreased to 64.71 crore from 64.77 crore and the rural subscription increased to 51.98 crore from 51.82 crore between March and February. According to the report, the total number of wireless subscribers increased to 114.2 crore in March from 114.15 crore in February. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio were the only gainers of new mobile subscribers in March. Airtel's net .
