Nepal: Krishna Temple reopens 3 years after massive earthquake
Lalitpur [Nepal], Sept 2 (ANI): Nepal's famous Krishna Temple was on Sunday reopened for the public, three years after it was closed for reconstruction following a massive earthquake in 2015.Serpentine lines and a large mass of people gathered in the historic Patan Durbar Square to get into the Krishna Temple, which was built in the 17th century and had sustained minor damage during the calamity.Rangaman Malla, a devotee, told ANI, "We are feeling very happy as we are now able to worship by entering the temple after the destruction caused by the earthquake in 2015. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday extended her greetings to people on the occasion of 'Janmashtami'. 'Janmashtami' marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, the eight avatar of Lord Vishnu. The festival is celebrated with traditional gaiety across the country every year. Nepal's Krishna temple reopens 3 year after quake
Nepal's famous Krishna temple built in Indian Sikhara style was reopened for the public on Sunday for the first time after 3 years after a deadly 2015 earthquake that left much of the country's cultural heritage in ruins. The 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit on April 25 killed more than 8,700 people and levelled homes and monuments in the valley, home to the three former kingdoms of Patan, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. Thousands of devotees thronged to the 17th century temple of Lord Krishna situated in Lalitpur Municipality of Kathmandu from early morning Sunday. The artistic temple built by Siddhi Narsingh Malla of Lalitpur was partially damaged during the earthquake. The renovation of the stone temple was recently completed. Ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh stolen from temple in Thane
Gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 35 lakh were stolen from a temple here in Maharashtra by unidentified persons, police said Sunday. The theft came to light Sunday morning when the management of the Lord Krishna temple, located in the main market area, opened the premises and found the ornaments missing from an idol installed there, Thane police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar said. Police suspect that thieves stole the ornaments Saturday night, she said, adding that the CCTV installed at the temple was also tampered with. The estimated value of the stolen ornaments, which were adorning the deity, is around Rs 35 lakh, Narkar said. Police were probing the incident, she added.

Lord Krishna has given a purpose to the widows of Vrindavan to continue with their lives after being left alone in this world, says 88-year-old Gayatri Devi, for whom Janmashtami is more than a festival. A native of Bisra in Odisha, Devi was thrown out of her home by her children 17 years back following her husband's death. After begging at the Banke Bihari Temple here for some years and selling incense sticks later, she finally found a home in 'Krishna Kutir', a 1,000-bed facility for widows inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Friday. Jain monk Tarun Sagar Maharaj died in the early hours Saturday at east Delhi's Radhapuri Jain Temple. He was 51. "He was not keeping well and was earlier admitted to a private hospital in Vaishali. A few days ago, he had decided to come to the Radhapuri Temple in Krishna Nagar, where he died at around 3.18 am Saturday morning," said a senior official of the Bhartiya Jain Milan, a pan-India Jain organisation. His last rites were performed at the Tarun Sagar Dham in Modinagar in Uttar Pradesh. "I live in Shahdara. We got to know about his death at around 6 am and then many people rushed to have his 'antim darshan'. The temple where he died was filled with devotees.
